Day 3

Today is day 3 of this attempt on a journey towards a healthy weight.

Hi, I'm Casey. I'm a 21 year old Master's student in economics at the University of Alabama (roll Tide!). I'm concurrently pursuing an undergraduate degree in math and economics with my Master's. I'm a teaching assistant and an aspiring PhD student. I hope to start PhD coursework in statistics in the fall at either UNC or NC State.

My starting weight was 241, which is higher than I've ever been or ever thought I would be. To be honest, it scared me a little when I got on the scale. I'm on the tall side, so that was just over the threshold to make me "plus-sized" for the first time in my life. That was somewhere I never wanted to be. My short term goal is graduation (05/03/2013). By my graduation in May, I'd like to have lost 25 pounds. My next goal is the start of my PhD studies (08/20ish/2013). I'd like to start graduate school under 200 pounds. My ultimate long term goal is my 23rd birthday (04/25/2013). On my 23rd birthday, I'd like to weigh in at under 150lbs for the first time in my adult life.

As far as plans go, I'm counting nutrition stuff on Spark. I'm also taking Slimquick Razor this month and incorporating 2 Body by Vi shakes into my day. I'm trying for 3 servings of veggies a day, and I'm focusing on eating enough protein and drinking enough water.

In 3 days, I've lost almost 7 pounds. Probably mostly water, but still exciting. My pants are already fitting a little better, so that's nice.

I'm bad at exercising, but I'm going to start Couch to 5k on Monday...we shall see how that goes.

Good for you on the Couch to 5K and also for sharing your goals. You're putting yourself out there and we all support you! I can't comment on the Slimquick or the Body by Vi, but I do think it's good that you're going for extra veggies.

I've seen SparkCoaches here tell people to aim for between .5 and 2 pounds per week. There are also some articles about it if you type "how much weight should I lose per week". Most people see their weight loss fluctuate quite a bit from week to week. Don't get discouraged if your loss tends to get slower. Some studies say that people are more likely to keep off the weight when it's done slowly.
