Tomorrow is my three 5Ks day: the Senior Game 5K Road Race at 8:30am and Senior Games Power Walk 5K at 10am both of those in Bartow. Then I'm going about 12 miles or so to Winter Haven to do the Shamrock Run, Walk, and Jog with your Dog 5K with my niece and nephew at 1pm. I expect a busy and fun day!! I'm going to pack my lunch and snacks, even though they will probably have bananas and water at the first two 5Ks. I don't know what will be available in Winter Haven.
This is my 3rd year to run the Senior Games. In March of 2011 I ran my first 5K at the Senior Games. I ran really for the first time (since I was a kid and just ran around for fun) in January of 2011. I was only running once a week and had only gone the 3.1 mile distance twice before the race. I didn't have anyone there with me and knew no one. I thought my time of 31:19 was respectable. I just left after I was finished to go to my Weight Watcher meeting to tell someone! The next week I found out I had placed 3rd in my age group. Was I surprised. I had to drive to the Senior Games office to pick up my medal.
The next year I recognized a few people I had run with the year before including Brenda who had told me about my medal at Weight Watchers. She was the second place finisher in our age group in 2011, but had moved up an age group in 2012. I ran the 5K in 30:23 last year, placing second in my age group. The first place finisher was only a few seconds ahead of me.
But this year I'm really excited because I am going to have a cheering section!! Aquagirl has committed to come to the stadium and be there for me. My nephew and niece may also show up -- he wanted to talk to her before committing. So, anyway, I'm really grateful to have that support. I hope to break 30 minutes, but will be happy to feel that I ran my best for the day and the conditions. The last half is a steady but not steep incline.
So, please send a positive speedy thought to me at 8:30am Eastern Standard Time! (Altogether now: Go, Marsha, Go!!) Aquagirl (Cyndi)'s support is greatly, greatly appreciated. Thanks to you, too, for any positive vibes you can send my way!!
