I lift things up and put them down.

Okay, so if you haven't seen the Planet Fitness commercials on TV, you must YouTube them. Freaking hilarious. And so true. So for those of you just tuning in, I signed up for a membership with Planet Fitness last night. I went in for the first time to work out this evening. I started out right on the treadmill, even though I usually hate it. I started walking and walking and walking.. And my mind started wandering. I remembered about how I had read a review about the big fans that PF has, and wondered why I hadn't seen it. Then I looked up. Holy freaking cannoli. The HUGEST ceiling fan I have ever seen in my LIFE. The blades have to be at least 10 feet long each, and there's probably about 10 total blades on the fan. ENORMOUS. I was very entertained by the fan. So after I had been walking for about 7 minutes, I decided to try and jog for 30 seconds. So I bumped up the speed to 4.0 (yes I realize its not very fast for all you runners, lol) and started jogging while watching one of the TVs. I glanced down a bit later, and realized I had been jogging for a full minute. So I decided to keep going. 2....3....4...5... Okay okay back to walking now. I jogged for 5 straight minutes! Holy cow! So I walked for a few minutes, jogged for another 2 minutes, then finished up walking (for a total of 22 minutes). Then I hopped onto the elliptical. I used to love the elliptical, wtf was I thinking. 2 minutes into it I was thinking "why the hell did I decide to get on here"... But then I also thought "I can't get off of the machine so soon. People will be internally laughing because I couldn't even last for 2 minutes". It hurt, and I couldn't breath. So I distracted myself with daydreams, music, and TV for another 20 minutes. Went and stretched.. Then decided to see if I could talk to the personal trainer. He had a scheduled class, but no one had signed up. So I got him all to myself. We sat down and he asked me a few questions, we talked, and he wrote out a workout plan for me. I told him that cardio is not hard to figure out for me, but I am totally clueless when it comes to strength training. I usually just walk around looking at the machines, do one or two of them, and then leave. So he created a strength training program for me, so now I'm not clueless. Now I know what to do, on what day, for how many reps and sets. Very happy about that. I'm gonna finish out this week just doing cardio, and then will start the whole program next week. I'm definitely very excited, hopefully this will be just the push that I need. So far, I really like the atmosphere of this gym. Not once did I feel uncomfortable! Yay!

After talking with one of my dear friends today, she convinced me that I need to start rewarding myself. So, I've decided that at every 10 pounds lost, I will give myself a small non food item. At the -25, -50, -75 and -100 marks, I will give myself bigger rewards, still non food. Anyone have some ideas to throw at me for rewards, whether it be the big or small ones?

Couple ideas that I have are new nail polishes, earrings, tanning sessions, a hydramassage session... My big rewards for -50 and -100 will be a new set of workout clothes.

hahaha. I always feel like that when I hit the gym and try a new machine I don't like. I have to stay on just long enough that people won't notice.

You are doing great with your workouts! =]

Yay!! I'm so proud of you for getting back into it!!! I need to be distracted when I work out most of the time haha. It helps get through the unpleasantness of not being able to breath very well! I should see if a personal trainer can just help me put together a plan- that's a good idea! I just don't have the extra money to pay for a session haha (I'm not exactly cheap, but I'd rather use that money for something I need like, oh, say, gas so I can get to and from work! Glad to see you getting back into your groove!! You're AMAZING!!

good for you! this gives me hope in case I decide to be brave and go myself some time.
I think your rewards are great ideas- I did that years ago and had a whole running list of things I would get myself. Whenever I thought of something I might have impulsively purchased before, I added it to the list and waited to earn it.
I remember buying a nice makeup bag for my purse- in my mind nice- it was $10,
cologne or bath gel, lotion, now I might add special flavored nocal waters that I could have on hand for a treat, Starbucks has a really nice herbal tea-vanilla rooibos, that comes in a nice tin- 15bags for $4.95. I use that for a special "snack/dessert" at night.

Just keep swimming...er...ellipticalling, that's the way!

Glad you like your new gym, and I'm the tiniest bit jealous of the free trainer access. I thought about Planet Fitness after I moved, but ended up going with my current gym, because it had a gym (basketball courts, etc). Funny thing, I haven't played any basketball yet, but I'm glad I joined the one I did, because I've discovered pickleball, and I get to play volleyball on occasion. That said, I totally identify with what you said about strength training, and just looking around at machines and randomly choosing to do a couple of sets on a couple of machines, and calling it good.
