Is it springtime yet?

Thursday, March 07, 2013

Seriously. There are several feet of snow outside. The sky is a dishonest blue--meaning, it's pretty, but it's totally still winter time. I am SO COLD. And of course, a friend of mine flew to Cancun today and I am desperately jealous.

I want sunshine. I want to wear dresses and flip flops. I want to have picnics and go for long walks outside. (Yes, people do that in the snow. I'm not one of those people.) I want the beach and iced tea.

Instead, I had soup today. Actually, it was tomato soup. You know how long I've HATED tomato soup? Forever! I have always hated it! And then today, because we got a can of it from the church's pantry, I decided to try it with our grilled cheese sandwiches. I added some basil, celery flakes, and oregano and it was delicious. I not only didn't hate it, I actually enjoyed it.

You can all congratulate me on finding another food I don't hate. In the past couple years I have added mushrooms and cheesecake. (Yes... I really hated cheesecake.) Still working on blueberries.

In addition to the adventure with soup we also did some cleaning. My desk space is still 75% disaster, but I'm working on it. Like I said the other day, everything is a process. Some other things have to be done first. For instance, a few weeks ago I cleared out a drawer of random craft stuff and put all of it into a toolbox. I put paper in the drawer. Well, I'm realizing that I have too much "random stuff" for the toolbox and it will have to go back into the drawer which means my paper has to back into the original system, so I have to move shelves around and... you don't want to read all that. Totally boring. ZZZZZZ.

Anyways. We DID get the majority of the kitchen and the bedroom clean, and I personally reorganized the bathroom. Like a champ! So in one sense, it IS spring time, because of all the cleaning. I just wish it would get up to a nice 40 degrees one of these days. Or 50 even! That would be heaven!

Oh well. Back to "cleaning".

I don't know how anyone could hate cheesecake, but I know there are people out there. Good for you for trying foods again even though you think you don't like them! It's amazing how our tastes change as we progress through life.

I think the term "Spring cleaning" is a misnomer. Most people, when the weather begins to turn nice, want to be outside, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the clear blue skies. I find that I do more cleaning and reorganizing in the Winter time. During Winter, you don't want to go outside, it's cold and nasty out there, so you stay in and find things to clean and throw out junk that you aren't using. We should call it "Winter cleaning" or maybe "terrible time of year to be outside, cleaning".
