Heathy Blog Day # 6 I need motivation and advice! Can you help??

Thursday, March 07, 2013

Hi Sparkbuddies!!
Today the assignment on my Challenge team healthy blog is to ask others for advice and help as I seek to make changes to my current spark plan. I am working on changing up my exercise to see if I can get out of my exercise rut. I love to ride my exercise bike and I am trying to add in intervals to this routine as well as doing some walking and would love some other aerobic ideas from my spark friends. I have fibromyalgia and back problems and so low impact exercise is all that my health allows. If you have some ideas for things that you do that would add variety to my current routine, I would love to hear them.
I am also seeking to increase my fiber and lower my fat intake levels in my diet. I have celiac disease and so some grains are off limits and so I currently eat gluten free oats daily and am trying to increase my intake of fruit and veggies. Daily salads and raspberry smoothies help with this. Any other ideas you have to share with me would be much appreciated.
So thankful for all of my spark buddies and your willingness to share, encourage and support me on this journey.
Take care!!
Hugs Barb

I agree with the suggestion of Aqua fit classes. If you don't have a gym or Y that has this, there are often community rec classes at the sschools or rec centers that you can sign up for. It is nice because you work, but the water also makes it relaxing and gentle. I used to love starting off my week with aqua class to kind of EASE back into the swing of things! Yoga feels wonderful, and helps a lot with my general aches and pains, not that that compares but on a small level maybe it could help?

I rarely have a problem with fiber intake, I just plan and eat a lot of fruits and veggies. Add one or more to every meal and snack and look up the fiber content of things you like and pick that way. emoticon

I add flax seed to my smoothies for the extra fiber. Also sometimes for lunch I will have spinach sautéed or cooked in the microwave. I love this for lunch. The 10 days I spent with my granddaughter were wonderful and an eye opener for me. She is also a celiac and she never stops eating but it is all so good. We had wonderful gluten free veggie patties that we bought at Costco and they were yummy. Lots is tofu, stirfries.
For exercise swimming, water aerobics bike riding, maybe yoga or tai chi even mat Pilates.
Hope this helps.

Do you have access to a gym or fitness center with a pool that offers water aerobics or aqua fit (as they call it at my gym)? Water aerobics is one of the best low impact aerobic programs out there. Our local parks department even has classes at some of it's indoor pools for low cost. I hope that helps!

Look here on Spark. I bet they have a few low impact aerobic videos!!! I agree with Dave about chia and flax seeds....nuts might also help with the fiber.

    Hi Barb,

I add chia and flax seeds to my smoothies for extra fiber. I also eat raisins and dates when a sweet attack is looming.

I have a treadmill and bike at home so I alternate 10 mins on each to change up the scenery. I also vary the levels each day and incline so my body is always guessing.

Hope this gives you ideas too!
