Yesterday looked like a March day. Sunny at times, rain threatening off & on, breezy. I checked the most recent weather data from the airport about an hour before I left work. 49°F, wind 12 mph from the SSW.
As I walked off the courthouse campus, I got hit by the wind immediately. My first thought was, "This is gunna suck." I was right.
The wind along the river is often stronger than the wind at the airport. I think the wind was 20-25 mph with occasional gusts. Nearly blew me off the trail. And then it started to rain. I was getting pelted by big raindrops (not our usual drizzle) that hurt when they hit at 25 mph. At some point, the left side of my face when mostly numb, so it didn't hurt so bad.
I averaged 9.3 mph on the ride home. And that's with having the wind at my back for the last several miles. I am not ashamed of that slow-poke speed. I keep reminding myself that wind only makes me stronger. Every now and then, I get a windless day - on those days, I feel like I'm flying!
