Meditation: Room For Improvement

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

Today is Wednesday, day five of trying to implement a new healthy habit. I have been working on taking my meditation practice to a new level, making it a daily practice. I have made some gains, having meditated at least briefly every day. But there is still room for improvement. I have been meditating every morning. It has made every day go a little better. I mentioned in an earlier blog that I keep thinking about sneaking in a few minutes of mindfulness in the middle of every day. Today I attended an hour long mindfulness class, and it was great. There is something about meditating in a group that is very uplifting and supportive. Now the goal is to bring some mindfulness to the middle of my day, every day. I will start with every other day. I am looking forward to it.

I had another thought on this. Someone once told me to watcha cat or dog get up in the morning (don't know if you have pets)...dogs stretch briefly, cats stretch slightly longer, this is how we humans should do it, not begin the day until we have stretched (meditate). Then there's the dog routine of circling in the bed before laying down...that is the "unwind" period we all need to help us rest peacefully at night. emoticon

This is such a great goal! I still have trouble with meditation - making my mind shut off is hard for me, I'm such a worrier! A meditation/mindfulness class sounds amazing! Good for you for going, and focusing on such a wonderful habit!!
