What a scary 2 weeks!

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

2013 hasn't been off to a good start for me at all.

After a beyond stressful work week 2 weekends ago, I decided to take a nice long hot bubble bath to help relax. During it, I got this overwhelming hot feeling and something told me I needed to get out of the bath. I remember getting out-- but nothing after that. I blacked out for some time and woke up laying on my bathroom floor. I banged up my face and knee pretty badly.

Initial trip to the ER I was told I was dehydrated. They put me on an IV for a few hours, did an xray on my knee (and a bunch of other test) and sent me on my way. I couldn't get a dr appt until Friday (almost a whole week later), so I just made sure to drink at least 100 oz of water a day-- but i still felt like i was going to pass out through out the week.

Meanwhile, Xray tech from the ER called and said they relooked at my xrays, and for me to keep a close eye on my knee because it looked like i might have torn my tendon. Not exactly the phone call that I wanted!

Had a lot of test done at dr appt friday, and everything came back normal. The problem is that my blood pressure it getting too low, and the cause is unknown. Dr suggested I add more salt to my diet-- which i have, and am slowly starting to feel better :)

As far as my knee-- it def feels funky :( I'm not in pain all the time, it comes and goes... just have huge high hopes that i didn't really mess it up.

Eating super healthy and exercising has taken the back burner until i feel better! Hope it will be sooner than later!

That is super scary. Take real good care of yourself. Keep drinking the water and I think that, like "overworkedjanet" said, it's a good idea to increase your sodium intake. Just did a bit of reading on raising low blood pressure and one thing that also helps is eating ginger and ginseng. Here's a link for you. :) http://www.ehow.com/how_5403206_rai

My DD had low blood pressure for a few years as a teenager. The doc told her to DRINK MORE FLUIDS! (and eat salty foods lick chips which I would not realy recommend to someone adjusting to food changes.)
It worked! To this day she is a water guzzler although she prefers Propel or Vitamin water for the taste.
Hot baths are great but plenty of us have experienced the dizziness you get when lying low in a hot tub. It really does a number as you found out.
I hope your pretty face heals nicely. As for the knee...good luck with that and make sure you check it out! emoticon

Do take care of yourself, ice your knee when it hurts and even though the doctor didn't find anything serious wrong- one thing that has helped my knees recover is resistance bands with some passive motion while you are sitting on the couch.... look up on sparks for some of the exercises on Sparks.
So glad you are starting to feel better with more salt in your diet, if your "strange" again, I would request to see a cardiologist to make sure that your heart is healthy and your kidneys are functioning properly to help your heart. *just a suggestion.

Hope you will be ok. I know you don't want to give up exercising but do what you must to get the knee to heal. Get well soon. emoticon

Whoa! Scary! Exercise should definitely take a back burner unless you do the chair exercises I do which can be modified to protect your knee.

You should examine your eating habits of the last few weeks to see if you were going too healthy and getting your system out of balance. Obviously things like cutting out all salt seem like they should be but aren't necessarily healthy. You should still try to eat balanced meals and just not try to go for super low calories.

Good luck!
