Chemo and grocery shopping yesterday

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

Yesterday I had another long session at the chemo clinic; they were short one nurse so that meant more waiting time for everything. My hemoglobin went down more, to 9.1. That didn't surprise me, because of the level of my fatigue. Sometimes, I think it's not just the low number that makes me tired, but how fast it drops. Last week, it had been 10. something, so it was quite a drop this time.

After chemo was finally done, my best friend and I grabbed a quick lunch then she took me grocery shopping. I was soooo tired by the time I got home, around 5pm. I'm glad to have the shopping over with, but I think with the way my fatigue level has been, it's probably not a such a good idea to shop the same day I have chemo. At least next week is my "off" week.

As tired as I was, it took me a long time to fall asleep last night. I was fighting nausea and a headache too. Feeling better today even though I am kind of slow moving, feel kind of like a sloth! I got a Sit and Be Fit workout in and finally, after procrastinating much of the day, got started on the laundry.

The weather is slowly starting to warm up; I will be glad when all the ice is gone. I almost had a fall yesterday, while I was outside spreading ice melter around my walkway. My left leg unexpectedly slid backwards; I caught myself before I fell, but I jerked my "bad' hip in the process and it's still a little extra sore from that today. I don't think I did any damage to the joint, but I think I might have pulled some muscles there.

Sorry to hear you had a rough day and night, Shari. Thank goodness you didn't fall, but jerking your hip isn't much good either. I hope the headache and nausea don't return. Take it easy with your haemoglobin level being down! Sending big hugs your way.

There are rubber pieces you can get for your shoes that have what looks like a stretched out spring on them that will help you get traction on ice. They also don't do damage to floors like cleats do. You can get them online for just a few bucks. Might be worth looking into.

Oh, Shari..what a painful close call :( So glad you managed to catch yourself! We had lots of snow down here today, and I was afraid to even go out; you're a braver soul than I. You manage to get so much done despite those difficult treatments and the tiredness, nausea, and sleeplessness. You are a masterpiece and a master when it comes to coping; I learn so much from you! Say...if you're a sloth, I'm absolutely inert! emoticon Baked some cookies for my husband's office and took a lo-o-ong (2-hour) winter's nap! (But I only got 5 hours' sleep last night...) Have a restful, enjoyable evening! emoticon

So glad you did not have a fall but so sorry you got jerked and hurt your bad hip. You have more than enough to deal with dear one. God Bless you Shari. You are such a trooper. Much love and a very tender hug. Pat

Lots of hugs. My son, Nathan was four years out from his Testicular Cancer in January.
I just read that Valerie Harper has brain cancer and they gave her less than 3 months. So sad.
