Healthy Habit #5: Saying “no thank you” to caloric beverages!

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

This has been my personal mantra for years. I love food too much to log high-calorie beverages in my nutritional tracker. As it is, when I cook, I cook big. On Christmas Day, a friend and I bulk cook eight different curries (each recipe quadrupled or more) for a dinner party and for freezing.

Coach Nicole writes about it as one of two tips to lose one pound per week in a video for SparkPeople. She says, “Don’t drink your calories” The link is live, not the photo.

I’ve pretty much given up soda pop as well, with the exception of one restaurant, Cici's Pizza Buffet, which I frequent about a dozen times a year:

In the past 100 days, I've averaged about one gallon of water a day (black coffee excluded). I continue to strive to live by the counsel, "Don't drink your calories," as well as "Fill half your plate with freggies."

Do you have any firm mantras you strive to live by?

Wowsa...now THAT is what BATCH cooking means. Looks incredibly yummy. My goal this year is to use more turmeric in my cooking. I think your currys would lend well to that. I LOVE Thai cooking and will also experiment with that too. DH will just have to join in...be it screaming and whining the whole way. He's just gotta be more open minded about different dishes. He'll come around...it just takes some gentle nudging! emoticon emoticon

With the exception of my occasional craft beer (singular), I don't drink my calories either. I'm still working on the half plate of freggies...

Very logical credo! Great advice for anyone! I drink a ton of water too. Haven't had soda in over 30 years. You probably know about my coffee trials but does ordering "just water" in a restaurant bother you at all. It does me. I still do it but I wish I could get over the guilty feeling of appearing cheap.

I'm with you, I'd rather eat my calories than drink them.

I also started doing the veggie plate half full when I actually eat veggies... lol... that is one awesome spread you have there.. how do you not eat it.

I have a problem drinking my calories in the form of lattes... i do make my own at home so can control what I put in them... I don't drink them every day but try to major on the water intake.

Have a great day

I couldn't agree more. I love to chew and so I never drink my calories. I drink water and plain tea, but never smoothies, juices, etc. I just get too much pleasure out of texture and don't want to waste calories drinking. That is quite a spread you made! Awesome!
