February Recap and Checkmark System

February Recap:
February was kind of a down month for me. Out of 28 days I only worked out for 7 days. Also, I started the journey mid February 2010 and this month I weighed in at the same weight. Looking back over the past three years, there are changes that I can see for the better. But there are also things that I slacked off on, exercise being the main one. Some highs of the month include a 15,000 step day. Yay!!! March I'm hoping is a good month (and not just cause it would be a bummer otherwise being my birthday month and all). I'll let you know when it's over :)

Checkmark System:
Water and exercise are two things that I can't seem to get under control. So, I came up with a system to hopefully help encourage more of both. Here's how it works:

~Water: I have a red water bottle at home that holds about 3 cups worth (24 oz). At work, I have a blue cup that holds 2 cups (16 oz), and when I work out, the bottle I use holds something between the two. For every red bottle I drink at home, 2 blue cups at work, or bottle during workouts, I get to add a check mark to my board. Each check mark for water is worth $0.25. At the end of the month, I'll add the check marks up and that is cash that I'll get to spend (or build up for something that costs more, like a race).
~ Exercise: Every workout I do that is over 300 calories in cardio, or a whole ST workout (usually 2-3 machines with 3 sets of 12-15 reps per machine for each of the three main areas). Every whole body ST or 300+ calories = a check mark worth $0.50 (and yes, 600 calories would equal two check marks).

March is the trial for this system. I'll let you know how it goes at the end of the month.

    Sounds like a great system! Great incentives to get you changing your habits on a daily basis. If anything were to motivate me, this would probably be it. Good luck!! Definitely keep us updated. In fact, perhaps a weekly update with money or check marks earned might add to your motivation. : )

    What a great reward system! You'll have to share what you get yourself for getting your water/exercise goals met!
