And the challenges continue...

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

It was a good day, just discount the furnace is working but is not heating the house.. this week is downright surreal.

I made an appointment for Sat to appeal the property assessment...so that is one step in place.

Work was ok, working out was fun(keeping me calm in times of weirdness), and the long nap with Mr. Couch and Mrs. Comforter was a perfect treat for this unreal day..

Still awaiting the service tech to call to set up an appointment...sigh..

Good night, hopefully tomorrow may be better.. emoticon

OUR taxes went up and I appealed the evaluation of the house. The assessor NEVER had been to the house so I asked him to come and look inside.

He looked at the kitchen he said oak cabinets, I said no Oak veneer we put them in so I know they are veneer, oak was almost 4 times as much.

He said we owned 2 lots I said mo we do not this is one lot look at the map the previous owner sold 2 pieces of land so our neighbours could have driveways so the lot is all one going by the city code the smaller lot left can never be sold for a home to be put on. Now we own one lot yes it is bigger but it is less than owning 2 lots.
He said we had a perimeter fence well if he had looked the back fence is our back neighbors fence so that was also reduced.
I went right through the list with him and our property assessment went down as did our taxes. Do bear in mind we are in Maine but that was how I approached it. I was very polite and firm with him. I often feel they do not want to deal with women but they must be used to it by now.
Good luck with the re-assessment Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sorry for your troubles! I don't know that the increase in assessment will necessarily increase your taxes, but maybe you'll find that out. Good luck.
