Habits blog 5 - Wednesday

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

Teeth are flossed, I'm sitting on the Swiss ball and my tracking of food has restarted! Next on the list of revived habits? Getting back to occupying my mind with my interests so that I get satisfaction in my day from other than food.
I suppose I'm really thinking about genealogy. Poking around to find out more of my family history and the life and times of the people involved is one of the most relaxing things I do. It's taken a back seat in life since the earthquakes but now I think it's time to get going on it again.
"In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we came from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness." -- Alex Haley, Roots

Yes, you so deserve to have a hobby that you love. Lucky you. (I inherited the family history stuff from my mom and just recently got the Family Tree info downloaded to my computer from her old PC. I am trying to figure out which software program would be best if I want the info to be accessible by both my sisters on their PCs and my family on our Macs. Any suggestions? I am picturing a cloud-based database in Dropbox or something. I have no clue...)

Good luck with that! It can be very interesting and fun. My mom and I spent a whole summer digging around on relatives attics, courthouse records, and graveyards to complete ours (this was years ago before everything was digitalized).

Now you can do it all without leaving home, I understand! Enjoy it!

I love tracing rellies, do you use Ancestry site?
I've traced back to 1630 on some branches, love digging up stories to flesh out the family history.

Loved Roots. Not shown very much because of the copyright challenges to Alex Haley. They do show it on BET every once in a while.

Nice piece,

Also, thanks for your posts on SP Diversity.
