Kidney Donor Test Results

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

I didn't feel like blogging about it earlier, but I was turned down to be a kidney donor for my wife. The frustrating thing is that I was a perfect match and all of the doctors' previous concerns had been alleviated. Then the lab work came back showing that I was a borderline diabetic - this was cause for immediate elimination. I was shocked! My family doesn't have a history of diabetes, and in the past 6 months, I've lost 45 pounds, am eating healthier, and am exercising regularly! We're going to take our granddaughter to the ranch next week, but I'll get an appointment with my doctor after that to see what I can do about it.

In the meantime, we have one other possibility for a donor - my wife's brother who lives in Houston. We're going to get with him tonight to see about starting the testing process for him. I'm just really "bummed" out right now - I really hoped I would have been able to donate one of my kidneys.

I deeply appreciate all the thoughts and prayers through this. You have really been my extended family!

Oh, Bill, my heart goes out to you. I will pray that the brother will be a perfect healthy match. I know that catching your diabetes before it got a good hold on you will improve your chances of correcting it with lifestyle changes. You're in the right place for that! Big emoticon

SO Sorry to hear you can not donate ...I relate to the feeling as i could not help My brother with stem cells for his leukemia ...But God had a better plan in perfect match of youngest brother ...they were also born on the same day, he is younger and in better general health than i and this left me out of the treatment loop but able to help a lot in the nursing and family help realm...So trust God's answer in this and watch and wait to see what our Faithful God will show you in the next interval of life for you and dear wife. Have put you on my prayer list since our friendship is new with this challenge.

A curse and a blessing? I know you are feeling so very discouraged right now, but the silver lining is you have been given an insight into your future. Your hard work has placed you at "borderline"; if you hadn't accomplished so much already, the results could be much worse. Will keep you in my prayers that you find a donor for your wife, that you continue on your journey to better health, and that you will have many more years together!!! emoticon

Really sorry to hear this, I can imagine how devastated you must feel. There WILL be another donor out there, stay strong....sending positive vibes xx In the meanwhile, keep looking after yourself, you've done brilliantly so far. Is there a chance you'll be reconsiderd if you get your blood sugar down?

that is very upsetting, BUT there is always a reason for everything. You do know why it is an automatic rejection? I am diabetic,, one of teh major problems with diabetics is kidney and eyes, not to mention circulation. Your present health notwithstanding, down the road, what if you needed both kidneys if they had to remove one?
I know it is easy for somebody else to pontificate, but I am on the donor list, as well as bone marrow. but who knows what they will accept from me in the future. I am not on insulin, just a Type II.
I will pray that your BIL is a match and he agrees to it.
