I have signed up for a team goal which is to write a blog at least once each week. So here is my first blog in nearly 12 months!! The question is what to say that others would want to read? I'm not very good at witty or inspirational reflection so perhaps I should start with why I'm here and the goals I am working towards.
My battle with weight gain has been a long one and with spark people I have had some good success particularly after having my third baby. Whilst on maternity leave I was able to dedicate time and energy to the program and it worked. However when I returned to work full time in a stressful job as a children's social work manager all my good work very quickly unraveled and I was back in a worse position than before. After a few false re-starts I hit a life moment back in September. I TURNED 40!!!
Quite a number of people told me how they hated being 40. It was the worst year of their life. The thought of being 40 filled them with dread etc. etc. etc. Well I made a decision. I was going to be different. Being 40 for me was going to be a celebration that lasted a whole year and I was going to do some thing that meant something to me and to others in the year while I'm 40. That was when I decided to climb a mountain!! Ben Nevis we have a date!! This was my opportunity to raise money for Breast Cancer Care a charity which is important to me, do something positive for others and do something that would need me to focus for the whole year to achieve. I also wanted to be able to look back and say I did that! So on 14th September 2013 I will be ascending Ben Nevis -The highest mountain in Britain. I know many of you will have done this many times. I know people who have run up Ben Nevis but for little old me this is a major challenge.
For me to make it to the top I am going to need to loose a lot of weight and get a lot lot fitter.
So the first thing I did last September was join a gym. I got a personal trainer and I was off to a flying start. My fitness improved dramatically but the weight just wouldn't budge. That was when I came back to Sparkpeople in January but then I picked up a horrible virus which knocked me off my feet for over 4 weeks. So now I'm back, tracking food and exercise but more importantly I'm getting involved in the spark community which is the piece of my missing puzzle previously.
So these are my Goals:-
Weight loss- I am going to work hard to try and loose 2 lb a week until the end of March. That will have brought my weight down to 15 stone (Still a shocking weight) I then hope to maintain a steady weight loss to drop another stone By June and another stone by September. That means I will be climbing Ben Nevis at 12 stone (168lb)
Fitness - I am exercising for at least 5 sessions a week (two gym sessions, three runs and two rest days - although I might walk on my rest days if time permits) With my running -well slow jog really! - I am almost running 5k. although I can run the full 5k at a very slow pace I am trying to increase my pace which means I'm not getting round the full 5k without stopping at the moment. Once I have mastered the 5k I hope to build to eventually run 10k but that is way in the future yet.
Being 40 is GREAT!!
