Snow storms and comfort food

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

We had two snow storms last week. And I was on my game! I did my "day before a snow storm" grocery shopping, which our local weatherman referred to as the "Bread and Milk Day" :) By the time the snow blew in, the cinnamon rolls were raising, the cookies were in the oven, clam chowder on the stove and sour dough bread ready to be prepped for soup bowls. I would walk to the window with my nonfat cappuccino in hand and watch the snow fall and accumulate. I love that snowed in, warm and cozy feeling. A fire in the fireplace, the house full of nostalgic smells. It's good to take a break from routine once in a while and celebrate the season. But...by day three...I was over it! Cabin fever in grand proportions! Complete with the sluggishness that comes from sugar from baked goods and heavy creams added to soups. So, I sledded with my granddaughters, which included trudging up the hill while carrying a 2 year old, bundled up and took a walk through a beautifully snowy arboretum. I think it recharges the soul to switch up the routine sometimes. Now...back to work...onward and upward...
