This is a special price half marathon I registered for on Black Friday for $25. I figured even if I didn't do it, I wouldn't loose much. I didn't realize at that time it was only a week after the Disney Princess Half I had already registered for. When I found out, I knew it would be interesting.
The week before the half marathon I encountered all types of issues telling my mind don't do it. This hurt, that hurt, real job insecurities with layoffs happening that very week, still getting over Princess, GI issues, sinus problems, I had to work that day and didn't know if I could switch shifts, I could go on an on. I even posted on my BGR group FB page that I was not going to do it.
Friday afternoon I picked up my packet locally (I don't believe in giving away or selling my bib) and got the name and e-mail address of the contact person to see if I could volunteer instead of run. She replied no refund (I didn't expect or ask for one). I then replied I would be there Sunday and hoped to meet her.
Two days before the race, a friend posted on my page this picture:
The message didn't move me, the picture didn't move me, it was the motto of the race organizers - "be inspiring" that inspired me to be there so that I could continue to be an inspiration. I would be to the run and plan to take pics and cheer on my team.
Race day morning I didn't carpool because I had to be back by noon to start an 8-hour shift at work. I chatted with my BGR sisters a bit and learned the 5K that was scheduled for Saturday had been rescheduled to run the same time as the half. I found the race director and she was able to transfer me to the 5K.
Here are our pre-run pics with me putting on pom poms:
I did get a chance to take pics of my team during the race:
I won an age group award - my first!!!!!
