The last time I was here, which must have been last summer, I was trying to lose weight without exercising. I had a strong mental block against exercising for the sake of exercising. There was a quiz on Sparkpeople that was supposed to show how ready I was to make the commitment to lose weight, and although I felt like I was on board with the nutritional component, I honestly answered that I didn't intend to exercise much. The results of my quiz were that I wasn't ready to change. That pissed me off, and instead of proving the quiz wrong, I stopped coming to Sparkpeople.
In the meantime, I had a heavy grad school semester, further unhappiness with my job, and the holidays came along. I also discovered a chocolatey snack that I really liked -- one that piled on a few more pounds until I came to my senses.
I can't even remember what the impetus was for joining the gym. It's so unlike me. But a new one opened by my house and I decided to check it out. It's affordable and the facilities are nice. So I joined!
For the past three weeks, I have been going to the gym at 5 AM every weekday morning (except Thursdays, because I have a late class on Wednesday nights and I need the extra hour of sleep) and on Sundays. I also got a Fitbit One, and I've been loving trying to get as many steps as I possibly can manage (which isn't as many as I'd like, because I have an office job that keeps me at my desk most of the day).
When I finally got up the nerve to weigh myself -- I was totally convinced I had gained 10 pounds since the summer -- I was "happy" to find that I was "only" 175.5 pounds. That was a month ago, and now I am down to 171.5. Plus I have major PMS right now so I think next week's weigh-in might be significant. Trying not to count my chickens before they hatch.
My goal for this week: start doing some Pilates floor work every day. Learn how to use at least one weigh machine at the gym. Don't drink any soda. Wish me luck!
