What is a serving?

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

I have this AWESOME red thai curry from the bestest Thai restaurant in Wilmington, NC Thanks to my beloved BF who FINALLY went there and brought me some back.

I did split it into 3 meals. Now, my issue, the spark tracker has beef red thai curry, with 4 oz of round beef, but it has no description on what the 1 serving is. There is no way the little 1 cup of curry I have measured out has 4 oz of beef in it. So is it a serving of curry made with 4 oz of beef or 4 oz of beef in curry sauce? Or is it 4 oz of the beef curry?

Thai, Red Curry, beef, 4 oz round steak, 1 serving

Calories 564

Carbs 27

Fat 40

Protein 31

Opinions? I would rather over estimate on calories, BUT this will mess up my protein number that I want to be accurate. I have just been adding 1 serving to the tracker.

I have asked myself this question multiple times - usually I eyeball the calories and go with that.

This "for two" recipe has similar nutrition... and it looks like it's about 6 oz of meat per serving. http://thai.food.com/recipe/thai-re

If I had to take a guess, the 4oz round steak might refer to the ammount of beef used in the entire recipie.... In which case, you'd track one serving just like that. It's hard to say, though. I mean, 31g protein sounds pretty huge for something that is a little bit of beef in sauce. The carbs sound about right though. It is a mystery!
