Horse soccer anyone?

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

My friend that I ride with bought a huge ball for her horse to kick around. She wondered if Rio would enjoy it as well. He was curious about the ball, not fearful, and eventually kicked it once. So maybe in the future we can have a game of horse soccer hehe...

I rode about an hour. Today was beautiful. It's hard to believe two separate storms are on the way.

We left the ranch and I found odds and ends to photograph. We were on Leona Ave. A proud Raven was sitting on a pole.

Across the way from the Raven, I kept hearing a Flicker. They are related to the Woodpecker. A beautiful bird. It was a ways off in a field, so my picture isn't super clear.

There was a Ground Squirrel running around.

I kept hearing a Woodpecker, so we drove down the road a bit. I finally found it on a telephone poll. Apparently this Woodpecker is artistic. I spotted a face of a Bear right by the bird.

Horses grazing away.

View of the hills

I wanted to say hello to Twilight and Coco today. Twilight was so happy to see me she trotted over this time. Coca was to busy eating to get her picture taken.

As I was petting Twilight a Raven kept cawing. It was sitting in a tree right by the horses.

Right after I took that picture a Red Shoulder Hawk flew over head. It was holding something in its beak. The Raven gave chase. The Hawk landed on a poll, and the nosy Raven landed right by the Hawk. Oh, was the Hawk mad. The Raven finally flew off. We drove up the road so I could get pictures.

We were going back down the road and a Scrub Jay landed looking for bugs etc.

Mama Hawk was sitting in the nest. You can barley see her head.

And her sweetie keeping guard.

Have a good Tuesday!

Thanks for sharing these lovely pics! Looks so much fun :)

I've gone horsebacking riding only a handful of times. The first time, my horse acted like a stallion -- galloping into the water!

This is the first chance I have had since Saturday to get back on here.

Just look what I was missing. The kick about really looks like fun and is something different.

You do have some interesting birds around you.

Have a great week.

Awesome blog and pix! My husband and I partook of the gorgeous afternoon we had here in Oregon yesterday, and walked down by the Willamette River - we saw a Flicker, too! Oh, that hawk you photographed DOES look mad! Ravens and crows are so good at irking birds of prey, aren't they? I love seeing you with your horses. I miss mine so much - it has been MANY years since I last had a horse in my life, but I'm not giving up on my dream to have one or two, again. Thanks so much for sharing! Your blogs and pix warm my heart!

Blessings,
Lori emoticon

My friends pony kicks a ball around all the time. She loves running in the pasture and kicking out at the ball....the darn thing is almost as big as she is. LOL

I know that Pat Parelli is a big believer in using those large balls to train horses and teach them not to be fearful. I have never introduced Lexi to one, Looked like Rio was perfectly OK with it! Looked like you had a good ride and a gorgeous day to do it! emoticon
