WDW Princess Half weekend recap with pics

Monday, March 04, 2013

After a little bribing with a tiara, two souvenir bags, one Coast to Coast and one WDW princess, and a $15 discount, I gave in a registered for the 2013 Disney Princess Half. This was during the expo at the Savanah Rock n Roll early November 2012. After much anticipation, the time finally came to run the event on February 24, 2013 and get the bling.

Race weekend, I skipped the expo and permitted a fellow BGR sister to pick up my race packet. I just didn't want to be tempted to spend a bunch of money at expo. Saturday before the race, I got up early and packed for an overnight stay with a BGR sister in her RV she had parked at Fort Wilderness. Then, I prepared to attend a Meet and Greet our BGR group hosted for other Princess Runners from all over the country. Here is a pic of some of us:

I didn't get much sleep, we settled down about 11:30, I toss and turned for a couple hours, and the alarm went off at 2:30 a.m. We road a bus to the start line - traffic was backed up. After arriving, we met up with our group and got in a couple dances at the pre-race party.

We didn't have to wait in the corral very long as we waited for the last call to get to our corral. The humidity was already high. The race was crazy. Somewhere around 25K princesses including a few princes. It was more of a sightseeing tour for me. I had a running buddy with me who was listening to music and singing a lot during the run so I kinda felt like I was by myself. This was okay because I've always run by myself in the past. Have you ever been in the park as the sun rises?:

I walked a lot, did an outrageous amount of bobbing and weaving even though I started in the middle corral. My energy was totally zapped, a lot of people around take my energy away.

Finally crossed the finish line and caught up with my group. I'm front and center:

My running buddy: We stayed together the entire 13.1 miles.

Congrats on your finish Paula! The bling is beautiful. I want to do a Disney race in the future. From what I have been reading about them, it is not a race to try to PR. They tend to sell out really fast.

It is great when you can meet up with people before the race. The BGR ladies are a wonderful group to know. From the pictures alone, your smiles speaks volumes # a great time in a magical place.

Thanks for sharing.
