Looking for help.....

Monday, March 04, 2013

So today on my Spark Coach it was all about figuring out what you really want in life and then creating your goals to get there. I'm having the hardest time figuring out what I REALLY want in life.

I mean everyone has better finances, security, a healthy lifestyle, etc. But what are those really?

What do I really want? What truley motivates me?

I'm finding that not having these answers for myself is causing actual concern and stress in my life. I'm such an "A" type personality with controll of everything and now I have this item which I've never really thought about. I never thing about what I want only what I need to do.

Does anyone know any excercies that can help one figure out what they really want in their life? What truly motivates them?

I'm looking for help....

It happens as you start looking at what makes you happy and what you enjoy doing. Our lives are often so complicated we can't focus, until we start looking inside ourselves instead of only going on what's happening outside of us. Doing something positive for ourselves everyday is very important to good mental health, it's not selfish! I thought it was until I started on sparkie! It'll happen, don't worry!

Well this can be tough but is there an activity you always wanted to try like running, skiing, ballroom dancing etc?

Is there an aspect of your health you would like to improve, blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol, muscle tone?

I had a teacher once tell us to sit and write, in a quiet setting, think of our childhood, our ideas of what we wanted to be, the person we actually became and our wildest dreams if we could be something different. Just start writing words and incomplete sentences to start and the thoughts and feelings will flow.

Stressing over it will only push your thoughts away. These are just random thoughts circling my head after reading your blog.

I hope something comes to you!

When I signed up for the Health and Wellness program offered by my insurance company, my wellness coach asked me the exact same thing. I was baffled and told her her that I would think about it and circle back with her on our next call.

I broke down my motivation for the following:

Physical
Menta
l
Spiritual
Financial
Emotional

Once finished creating that list, I set goals for each. There's a different mini goal for each category once a month. For example: My Physical March goal is to have 1,000 fitness minutes this month and I am motivated to reach this goal because of my recent 8lb weight loss with 500 fitness minutes. My Mental March Goal is to read 2 books and I am motivated to reach this goal because my 5 year old is learning to read and actually enjoys it. What better way to show my children than through a positive example?

Take the time to create your lists of needs and wants.....ideas for realistic mini and long term goals will suddenly pop out from various areas of your life. The key is to take it one day at a time. Best wishes to you on your journey.
