what I'm doing to stay encouraged

My problem is that I don't encourage myself at all!!! I don't do anything to encourage myself. No positive self talk. Nothing. In fact I've been pretty down because I turn 40 this month and had wanted to be near goal weight by now but I am still 130 pounds from there and pretty DIScouraged.

    Wanting to encourage you.. Make a daily consistent SMALL change then build on it.... It is hard but you must begin and DO it....I started with my little elliptical machine - not a fancy one but it works and doesn't hurt my arthritis...I started with just 6 minutes a day for three days, then 7 minutes a day for three - allow one day off per week for being away from home...It might be walking a certain number of steps each day and you might not see huge drops in the scales but if you know you are getting healthier and making better choices daily, it will begin to show!!! Now go get a beautiful glass out of the china cupboard and have a glass of ice water and make a plan. You are loved and encouraged ... i see we are on a team together so check in often.

    This post made me so sad! I do hope that from the comments here and all the blogs I'm sure you're reading for the challenge, you've seen a variety of ways to encourage yourself. It's a very important part of this weight loss equation!! Would you continue to do work for someone who didn't appreciate you (perhaps, but would you enjoy it and do your best?) of course not! YOU need to appreciate YOU for all the work you're putting in to this! Maybe start with something really simple, like a mantra you say a few times a day or post somewhere (a mirror, your car). Here are a few of my faves:

    I work out to see progress, not imperfections.
    I am enough, I do enough.
    The only way to finish is to start.
    One foot in front of the other.

    It seems like I have working to get off 10-15 lbs for a long time and it is discouraging. But I won't ever give up as I know what could happen if I did. I have to always tell myself I can, I can, I can. YOU CAN TOO, HUGS, Donna

    I know how discouraging it can be. Don't look at what you haven't accomplished. Look at what you have learned, adjust those goals (throw the old ones away so they aren't there mocking you), and tell yourself you will do it! I like mini goals--like first mini goal can be to increase your exercise and plan to lose 4 pounds. When you get there, REWARD yourself... and not with food! :-) Do something fun or buy something special. It can be silly, but every time you look at it, you will be encouraged. My first goal of losing 10% (I did not give myself a timeline) resulted in a reward of a new coffee travel cup! I LOVE that cup, not because it's awesome (in fact, it's rather cheap) but because of what it represents.

    And also, WE can encourage you. SparkFriends are great!!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!

    Positivity is such a great way to help you on your road to success! I challenge you to catch yourself in moments and look at the positive side and think loving and kind thoughts about yourself throughout the day.     You absolutely can do this... my "start" was when I looked back and saw how fast the last 12 years of my life went - I looked forward and "gave" myself then next 2 or 3 or however long it takes to loose... just do that - think of a child you know, how old they are and think "wow, they grow so fast"... if you allow yourself the next year or so, you'll be closer and closer to your goal. good luck and keep going!
