"I was thinking of doing the Race for Life...", said my Mum as soon she walked through the door. No time for pleasantries, and yet she didn't seem that enthusiastic.
" Well done", I replied, as one is wont to do.
"... but", she paused, "only if you will", which got my attention. As did the next four words, "so I entered you".
That, ladies and gentlemen, is how I find myself signed up to my first race in two years. 5K 'Race for Life', on behalf of Cancer Research. I'm not running for anyone other than the good cause, and it's not until May 19th, which give me just enough lee-way for training. It'll be a good non-scale challenge.
In other running news: lunchtime today - before the aforementioned racing 'shanghai' took place, I mentioned to handsome trainer Matt that I'd like to give the Cardiff Half Marathon a go in October. He's very supportive. Of course he is! Damn him and his enthusiasm for giving me self belief. Self belief leads to blisters and running in the rain! Still, hellish though a half marathon may be, this inescapable 5k will, er, really help me put my best foot forward.
