Date Night - Then Came the Scary Show (And It Wasn't the Movie)

Monday, March 04, 2013

Saturday was an enjoyable day and it was date night! Lunch first at the DQ - I practiced portion control. Then a movie; - one of the best movies ever! - "Safe Haven". We both really enjoyed it. Yes, I ate the popcorn - sorry, it's so good. Next time I'll try not to eat it, or at least eat less of it. There was a row of women beside me and they didn't eat any, so that gave me a little incentive to try not to eat it next time. Then dinner at Chili's. (More portion control!) Yes, I'm weak in the quality department of what I eat, but I'm still good at portion control and adding healthier foods like fruits, nuts, cheese, etc. I'm not giving up! I just slip sometimes.

Then......! We got some unwanted excitement. Way too close for comfort! We came very close to either being killed or injured. We were on our way home and here comes a red Ford truck heading towards the black car in front of us and then towards us. He ran the black car to the shoulder and then it was a game of dodge between us and him. We went left and he swerved over to our right and into the ditch. I looked in my side-view mirror and it looked like he was going to hit a culvert. I told my husband he had to have hit a culvert and would be hurt, so we turned around to check on him. He wasnít there, so we kept on looking for him. We spotted him at a store parking lot about 2 miles further. He had gotten out & it looked like he stumbled a little bit and like he was mad. I donít know if he was drunk or hurt or whatever. I know he had to be bouncing in and out of that ditch. We drove on around & I saw where the side-view mirror on the passenger side was busted up and also saw that he had a flat tire. He had also lost a big piece of furniture in the road. I donít know if it was a big book shelf or a dresser, or what. It was all busted up and in the middle of the road. We called 911 and reported it all, but donít know what else happened after that. We didnít wait around and we drove on home. The next day at church, I found out that a family I go to church with was in the other black car. There were 5 or 6 people in that little car. Could have killed them all. Makes me wonder if our gardian angels were protecting us because that was close and alot of misses kept us all safe.

UPDATE: Posted on 18 Mar 13. I found out yesterday, the man who almost hit us head-on, he told the man in the other car that was almost hit that he fell asleep. He said he woke up when he landed in the ditch. He said he didnít know how he kept from hitting the culvert or how his truck jumped back out of the ditch. He tore up 2 tires and his side-view mirror. He hurt his arm on the steering wheel. Heís a student and he works and he was tired and fell asleep.

Driver's are getting so much worse now-a-days. I don't know if it's texting, more cars on the road, drunk drivers, or what, but it's getting worse. There was 2 fatal accidents in 3 wrecks last week on the interstate I travel on every day. The first one, the car ran into a truck that was merging onto the interstate, killing her; and then the second car hit a vehicle from traffic backed up from the original wreck, seriously injuring him; and then the third accident, the driver ran into the back of a diesel truck, killing him; all from traffic backed up from the original accident. So tragic, and it was from not being alert in all cases.
