Waiting

I am in the process of getting approved for the lapband. It's not a decision I came to easily. After working with my doctor the last two years, trying numerous exercise programs and diets, I feel that this maybe the aide to not only help me lose weight, but also assist with long term weightloss. My mom has the lapband and I have a friend that has it. Both have had different experiences with it, but both mostly positive. If you are thinking about it, I would suggest finding a good surgeon that you really like. That made all the difference for me. I also like that that the hospital I will have it done at has a program after the surgery that teaches you how to deal with situations and learning how to eat, using the lapband as a tool. I don't look at the lapband as the magical solution to weightloss. I am looking at it as a tool that will hopefully assist with me getting to a healthier weight.

Right now I am in the process of doing the 6 month medically supervised plan that my insurance requires for the approval process. I will complete this in early May. I'll do an update as I move further along in the process.

Your head seems to be in the right place and you can completely ignore my two cents, but I would suggest this: While you're waiting, keep moving towards your goal. Eat healthy and exercise. If you get approved, look back at your waiting period. If you made good progress, just keep doing what your doing and put the surgery off.

I have friends who've tried different surgeries. Some have had good results, some not, but all have had complaints that didn't seem like a biggie when people told them pre-surgery:

you'll get spacey, you'll loose hair, you'll feel sick a lot, etc etc.

In the moment: it really sucks.

Good luck whatever path you choose.
