Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and Wilson Creek Winery

Sunday, March 03, 2013

I went camping at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - Borrego Springs, CA

I was suppose to go hiking, but that did not happen : (

Nice campfire at night.

I ended up being pricked by a cactus needle and that was no fun. This just means I need to go back to do some hiking.

We went to the quaint town of Julien famous for fabulous apple pie.

One of the hikers treated us all to delicious apple pie. It was well worth the calories just like it had been made at home.

There was a very cool museum well worth our time.

I had a nice weekend, but no hiking : (

After week dealing with the cactus prick I was ready for some fun. The girlfriends and I had some birthday celebrating to do up in Temecula. We spent the day at the Wilson Creek Winery.

The wine tasting was wonderful. Afterwards we enjoyed ourselves in the garden with a wine slushie. This winery is very nice, not stuffy like some. They allow therapy animals so you can bring your pet and enjoy wine at the same time. There were some nice dogs and an adorable pig all dressed up in a pink tu tu.

When we got back to the birthday girl's place her hubby had a nice hot dinner waiting for us, how sweet is that? Definitely a keeper!

I have had several weeks of dealing with back, neck and knee issues. This has resulted in "out of shape syndrome".

Time to kick my rear into gear!

Amazing pictures. Hope all the health issues are resolving and the cactus stick is just a nasty memory. Pie and wine and dinner waiting are all good things. Lucky you for those!

I love Anza Borrego....they have a great horse camping place there. I used to camp and ride there for a weekend with several good friends every year on my birthday . My birthday is the first week of April and usually, the cactus are blooming right about then and riding through miles of flowering cactus was a wonderful experience. We did have to carry pliers with us since the horse trails are rather narrow and the horses were likely to pick up cactus needles in their hooves. You can check online to find out exactly when the cactus are is really beautiful and worth making another trip there for. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Absolutely wonderful pix, Victoria. Too bad that something so beautiful can be that painful. Hope you are back up & hiking soon.

So very sorry your fun weekend included no hiking :( Cactus pricks can be so nasty, hope yours heals with no scar.. I got to admit, camping in the desert would not be a top ten choice, not with snakes liking body heat around :P Gorgeous cactus photos! I am not that big a fan -not after stepping on a hidden ball cactus with my bare foot as a child -Mom buried it in her garden to save it over winter and had forgotten about it :((
I hope you get these back, knee and hip issues checked out if its been going on so long -maybe you can be helped with them,
Its was great hearing from you, please take good care of yourself..

Other than the unfortunate cactus issue, everything you've been participating in looks and sounds marvelous. I especially liked the sound of that winery!
