The bad news: Well I haven't been the best this week at counting my calories or getting all my exercise in. In fact, I've only kept track 2 days and I'm pretty sure I went over on cals, 2 maybe even 3 days. My monthly visitor came this week and well during her wretched visit I've lacked some serious motivation, been tired, bloated, crampy, and have been craving coke (the Coca Cola kind) and Chocolate something fierce. Unfortunately I indulged in my Coca Cola addiction this week.
The good news: Although I've had low motivation I did manage to exercise twice, not the 3 times I promised myself but one was Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred, one of my most avoided DVD workours- more on that later.
This was the second time I had my TOM during this journey and I realized that there is a definite pattern going on. during the first two days I have absolutely no motivation for anything, I mean NONE! I didn't want to do work, housework, experimenting with fragrance, or even tracking my nutrition or food. I mean nothing at all, I just wanted to pop Ibuprofen for the pain and lay around watching Psych and Arrested Development reruns.
So how is that good news? Well now I know that one of my new goals is to prepare for my TOM, come up with some solutions and have a game plan going into it this month. One thing for sure is yesterday that after I did the 30 day Shred, I didn't have to take even one more Ibuprofen that evening. So this month I'm going to ramp up exercise around it for sure.
Now for the review....
I know people have been talking about this for a while. I bought it myself at least a year or two ago, and I've done it just once before. I'm pretty sure I gave up and didn't make it through last time at all.
Jillian Michaels 30 Shred...
3 Levels: 1,2, and 3.
What I did Level 1: Roughly 28 minutes
Oh Jillian, I love you on the Biggest Loser. Your are like a take no prisoner fitness general with a heart of gold. After working out with you on Level 1 of 30 day Shred for 28 minutes I can't even begin to imagine what a 2 hour training session with you on the Biggest Loser would be like. I think I WOULD DIE, maybe not but I'm pretty sure you'd make me puke.
This is a great workout. Except for the hip circles in the beginning its a fun workout for both men and women, although my husband said it was a good workout that he enjoyed he still lifted weights afterward because he needed more strength training. His exact words were, "well you know that was for building girl muscles, I need some weights to add man muscles". Out of the mouths of husbands, right?
The exercises were very straightforward and reminded me a bit of the old Gilad show I used to workout with as a teen. Butt kicks, crunches, jumping jacks, push ups, and lunges are some of the no frills exercises. I like the way she explained why each exercise was done the way it was. For a person with exercise ADD, I get bored so easily with exercises, I loved the short circuits between cardio and strength training.
Don't get me wrong this is a hard workout, well it was for me anyway. My muscles were burning, I was sweating and flushed, and I was gasping for air by the end. It really got my heart rate up. I felt limp and weak by the end and for a good 15 minutes after my muscles were shaking and I could barely lift my water bottle.
For me this was sort of a breakthrough on two levels. First I completed my first full 30 day shred ever and second, I not only found the motivation to exercise during my TOM but I did a workout that was really challenging for me. So even though there was some bad news this weekend. I'm choosing the good news to focus on and trying to make some changes so the bad news doesn't became a habit.
