My healthy habit plan for Running

Sunday, March 03, 2013

Since I got my treadmill, I just want to run! My foot got tender at first, so thankfully I was slowed right off the bat! DH and I both are getting a lot of great fitness minutes logged in using the treadmill.

1) To run outside here, I will need some pepper spray. I think I will feel safer with wild animals, two and four legged, with a weapon of sorts. Safety first.

2) I do not want to injure myself. I love fitness now, it would break my heart to squelch my work outs. I need to find the best running schedule for me to follow and post it on my desktop for daily motivation and reference.

3) I need to purchase a heart monitor with timer. Will have to research what I need here, input appreciated. Lower cost equals better.

I think that is it. Until tomorrow ~ emoticon

I absolutely love my treadmill too, although I only walk or do a slow jog.
You have a great plan and even though we love our treadmills, outside is always better. I agree with the suggestion that wasp spray would be your best bet. As for heart monitor, I have one that's like a wristwatch and works great. I can't remember the cost, but it wasn't much.

Great plan. Don't know what the requirements are in your state for pepper spray, but you can't buy it over the counter in NY. I ordered mine thru Cabelis. Fits in your hand with a strap. I agree - it's sometimes the 2-legged "animals" that are worse than the 4-legged. Good luck with your running.

Reasonable ideas. Yes--I don't appreciate wild animals when I'm out walking...Sounds like others have posted some good ideas. I may look into that wasp spray too. Enjoy running. emoticon

Yes safety first! Lol Hope you slip into your running schedule groove nice and easily! I have a Polar FT4 heart rate monitor and I love it. I think I paid 90 for it at the time. It was well worth it. Good luck finding one you like! emoticon

I know the fear of critters... been bit a couple of times myself...never turn your back on a dog.... and cats have been known to bite also. Be careful out there.

Instead of pepper spray consider getting Wasp Spray at home depot or similar store. For pepper spray you have to be very close to the attacker and wind can bring it back on you. Wasp spray shoots a stream instead of a mist [easier to aim] and shoots it a long way so you don't have to be close. Wind will affect it a bit, but it rarely blows back on you.

Have fun running!
