My healthy habit plan for Running

Since I got my treadmill, I just want to run! My foot got tender at first, so thankfully I was slowed right off the bat! DH and I both are getting a lot of great fitness minutes logged in using the treadmill.
1) To run outside here, I will need some pepper spray. I think I will feel safer with wild animals, two and four legged, with a weapon of sorts. Safety first.
2) I do not want to injure myself. I love fitness now, it would break my heart to squelch my work outs. I need to find the best running schedule for me to follow and post it on my desktop for daily motivation and reference.
3) I need to purchase a heart monitor with timer. Will have to research what I need here, input appreciated. Lower cost equals better.
