Winning Biggest Loser contest...but I'm kinda bummed

Saturday, March 02, 2013

January 1st, I started a Biggest Loser contest with a friend and 11 of her Facebook buddies. Since then, a few have dropped out, and of those who are left, no one is really trying anymore.

I joined SparkPeople, learned about nutrition, started exercising and tracking my food. I have worked very hard. I am so far ahead now, that it seems like everyone else has just given up.

I'm not going to stop what I'm doing. I'm doing this for me and my health and not some contest, but it's still kind of a bummer.

When others were doing well at first and were actually ahead of me, I always would congratulate them and send encouragement to everyone. Now, not one person congratulates me. Not that I'm doing this for the "congratulations", but it does hurt that they don't seem happy for me at all. I was genuinely happy for them.

Oh well, such is life! I am blessed to have a supportive husband, family and SparkFriends. Thank you everyone for the encouragement you give me everyday!

This is exactly why we need to do this for ourselves, but it is disappointing when friends aren't supportive. I suspect some of it is disappointment in themselves. BTDT plenty of times myself.

Thank you for your kind words on my blog. It does mean the world to get a pat on the back, so here's one in return! emoticon emoticon emoticon

And love your wallpaper! Just having that sea of blue pop up on my screen gave me a smile. Make it a great day!

Good for you for sticking with this and for getting healthier. It is too bad about your friends and it is easier to give up and go back to the old lifestyle but so happy for you that Sparkpeople has continued to guide you in a positive direction!

That is so sad..well I am glad that you are my friend because I need you. It's just a shame that they couldn't see how important of a person you are. Keep up the good work my friend and I'll continue to look forward to your encouragement that keeps me motivated..

First off, thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving encouraging words. It means a lot to me.

Second, I'm really sorry to hear about the contest. I know how you feel! It's very disheartening when you give more than you get. Then again, who's the person benefiting here? You! When you give to others, it enriches you as much if not more than it does them, right?

Let me also add: congratulations! I don't think there are many things in life as wonderful as getting healthier. You've done something that most people never can. Evidenced by the fact that all of your Facebook buddies gave up. Permanent change is incredibly difficult.

Never give up! emoticon

We all need a pat on the back and an "atta boy" so since your teammates didn't send some along, here are some for you:

That is a real bummer! It's great that you are still able to stay motivated and keep up with your plan even though the contest seems to have fallen through!
