Today I found the first frog spawn of the year on the top pond.
Oh Dear! I was getting ready to clear out some of the native yellow Iris that are taking over the whole pond with just a small patch of water . That is where the spawn is. LOL!
I had no wellies that I can get in the water with and my garden shoes that I use for heavy digging are so worn that they have no protection when I dig. I was getting lots of pain in my foot underneath. So today I searched for 2 hours on the computer to find some wellies suitable for digging. It was hopeless, kept coming up with ladies fashion boots which are no good at all. Then I searched farming and found Muckies which looked great, but too expensive. At last I found Dunlop Adamastor which were the ones my son and DH have had for about 20 years, but it was an American site and the post made them expensive and I also did not want to wait that long. I need them tomorrow, Sunday. I really wanted to try them on because of my high instep and foot problems. I often cannot get my foot into wellies and shoes.! I end up getting men's size 6.
I suddenly remembered a shop which my Uncle got his from so we went off on a sentimental journey to the village where I went in my childhood..
A lot of the shops I remember were gone and the shop I was thinking of had been turned into a walk with little boutiques. Very nice jewellery and herbs and spices, but not what I needed.
We walked to the other place where we used to take Uncle and it was still there, but changed its name or maybe ownership. We went in and they had loads of boots for hunting, riding and farming and .... Dunlop Safety wellies. I tried them on size 6 and they were huge. No trouble getting my foot in. Then DH found a pair size 5. I tried them on and they were perfect!
I felt as if I had been guided to that place. Amazing! After that we walked all around the village reminiscing. It brought back so many memories, but,

I did not take my camera! So could not photograph the church or churchyard where my Grandma and Aunt were buried such a long time ago. Its such a beautiful old church. So we will go back there another day and take photos, when the weather is brighter.
The river was running fast, but the floods have subsided. Sand bags were evident in neat piles.
i came home and went in the garden after lunch. The birds were singing and chattering in the trees. The sun had come out and it was a really nice spring afternoon. Tomorrow I will attend to the pond even if it rains. LOL!
