Improving on Bad Habits

Saturday, March 02, 2013

I grew up with 4 siblings and we fought over the biggest piece of cake...
I need to realize that taking a small piece can be even more satisfying.

I have a problem with snacks....can't stop if I start eating from the big bag....
I need to either buy individual portions or count the chips/pretzels/dried mango slices/etc and put the rest away with a tight clip on it.

I've gotten out of the habit of walking on breaks and we know I'm too tired after work......
either get of my butt at lunch time or set that alarm for a morning walk.

My problem is when I get toward the end I have to eat up before someone else does! Can't let some one else have the last bite! And I think it's been to cold to walk outside here in Southern Tier! Guess I was spoined down south!

I grew up having to clean my plate, but now I trying to stop eating when I start to feel full. That means I'm frequently leaving food on my plate and it is hard. It will take time to adjust to this new way of thinking.

I love the idea of taking a smaller piece and not competing for the biggest portion. I love mashed potatoes and now I take the smallest serving in the family. I don't even miss the big servings.

Maybe you could break the big bag down into single serving bags so that when you want the snack, you aren't tempted to take more than a single serving.

    Good luck with the challenge!

Sounds like you have 2 good habits there to work on. I think it is much easier to control how much you eat by putting it on your plate, rather than eating right out of the bag. And you're right, we can be just as happy with a smaller portion. That way you wont feel deprived, but you also wont feel guilty after about eating too much of something. emoticon emoticon

I was always taught to finish everything on my plate so trying to change habits with eating half of what's on my plate and save half for later is so difficult. Here's to us trying to change habits!
