Habit! A word study

Noun : an acquired behavior pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary: the habit of looking both ways before crossing the street.

Verb: to clothe; array emoticon

Wouldnít it be awesome if my healthy lifestyle habits became as much a way of life as wearing clothes?

Psychology: a learned behavioral response that has become associated with a particular situation, especially one frequently repeated emoticon

I can learn to love water! I can learn to practice healthy habits.....
........Mental disposition or attitude: and, I can have a great attitude about it.

Habit Verb: (old English), To Dwell, Inhabit, indwell. emoticon
The love I have for God, family, friends, is something that always lives within me (indwells). Itís always there, I donít have to think about it, and I donít hesitate several times a day and ask myself if I still have that love within me.
emoticon I JUST DO IT! emoticon

So, why donít I just drink the water emoticon
Track the food emoticon
Do the exercise emoticon
And consistently make healthy choices? emoticon emoticon emoticon

The answer of course, is because; those things havenít become habits, YET.

The unhealthy habit I DO have, is not following through with the healthy habits from challenge to challenge.

I didnít do well with the water drinking in week one. Water is the first healthy habit I formed when I joined Spark People on December 2o, 2009. I gave up soda cold turkey and started drinking water. I still don't drink soda, but I don't drink water either.

I did it once, I can do it again. emoticon
My healthy habit to blog about for this week is drinking water.

    I often will look up definitions to see what they really mean before writing something.

Habit (how we dress ourselves on the outside)
Habit (how we dress ourselves on the inside)

Attitudes; routines; choices; beliefs; thinking patterns etc.....

    I love making the word connection with "healthy habit" and "clothing oneself." I'm a Catholic and have been surrounded by nuns my whole life. One of my favorite photos of me is as a little girl, standing next to a nun in full habit, her arms around me. ANYWAY -- I want my new healthy habits to be just a part of my life, like getting dressed in the morning. THANKS for a new way of looking at something so challenging.

    I am currently doing better with my water. Only because I found out at my last Dr. visit that she can tell if I have drank enough water (I hadn't been). So now I try harder to drink the 8-10 glasses. It was easier with it being incorporated into our challenge also! Now to continue doing my water! I hope you do also!

    If we can develop BAD habits so easily, then why do GOOD habits take so much thought to acquire? Perhaps because Bad habits are so easy to make into habit and it's something we like, and good habits aren't easy to make because we don't like the "thing" we are trying to change. Like WATER. You had a thought provoking blog for me (obviously haha) so thank you.

    Great point made with your word analysis! This is soooo true! There are lots of obsticles to making good habits but we have to stand alone sometimes. If often feel like an odd duck when I ask for certain ingredients be left out of my food, or ask for sauces, dressing etc be left on the side. My husband always gives me a glare but he knows how a feel about changing my life.

I love how you broke down the words and painted a verbal picture for forming a healthy "Habit"

I am a homeschooler.
I love words!

One of the health books I used over the years described "Habit" as something we do without thinking about it. Sort of like blinking, or swallowing, or hugging a crying child...

As you said, we "just do it"

I feel the "SPARK!"
