Challenge Blog - New Habit #1

Being part of the 2013 Beautiful Butterflies, Winter into Spring team, we are given a Living the Good Life challenge (LGTL) each week. This week we are to write a blog each day on what new habit you wish to develop. My new habit would be Self Control when it come to eating. I love my sweets and have been able to eat them in moderation and maintain a weight loss. But... I can also be swayed to eat too much and the wrong types when opportunity presents itself.

The question is How will I make this my new habit? I know that I will need to control the urge to overdo it. Measuring and tracking will help make sure I eat the right foods. I will also consider the nutritional damage that eating too much of the sweets when it is offered. Checking nutritional values is very important to track. The change will take time and dedication and will also require me to be conscious of what I am eating.

This is the beginning of the 2nd week of the challenge. I gained .2 lbs this week and although not a large amount, it is definitely not in the right direction. As Weight Leader for the team, I feel I have the responsibility to set the example of losing weight during the challenge. Now I am taking the first step by developing new habits that I can work on this week.

Now if I could follow directions I would be ahead of the game. Tomorrow I will develop this more (added after I realized I didn't follow directions, LOL!)

    Reading the nutritional labels while shopping is a great way to stay ahead of the game, I have sometimes left the store with a lot less than what was on my list because after reading the labels I needed to find a healthier way to make a favorite meal or 2. emoticon

    Self-control is also my biggest problem: I usually make good and healthy choices, but sabotage them by eating HUGE portions... emoticon

    Sometimes hard to figure out, especially when one thinks fruit is a wonderful sweet!

    It is, don't get me wrong, but at times I have a problem because too many sweets in a smoothie adds up to a lot of calories and carbohydrates. I think veggies first then a fruit to flavor it. mmmm GOOD!

    I like the Jennifer Hudson weight watchers commercial where she says "the reason I'm in this body is not because I don't live in the world of temptation -- it's because I do." The biggest change between a diet and a lifestyle change is just what you are talking about-- developing strategies. not just ignoring temptations or trying to NEVER have a sweet again. We all know how that works!

    Sweet are my biggest temptation too and I am working on it by eating fruit instead of baked sweets. Reading labels helps too. You are going in the right direction there.
    0.2 lb gain could just be water.

    I agree that reading nutrition labels can make a huge difference in what you eat. I have put many things back on the shelf after reading the nutritional facts.
