Week 17, day 5

Starting week 2 of the 5% Challenge so will blog about my plans to improve my fitness plan today. Exercise is unfortunately, not my favourite occupation. Given the choice I would much rather snuggle down in a comfy chair with my Kindle or a good book. However, too much of that in the past is what has led to my obesity.

I always have been fairly active, because it is a necessary part of keeping the house and garden going, but moving to a village which doesn't have a big supermarket means using the car for the weekly shop rather than getting on my bike a few times a week. Part of the reason for having a dog is to get in plenty of walks with her, but even that often got left to DH, who suffers from arthritis and wants to keep active. There is nothing really to stop me getting up early and doing it myself and then she would get two walks a day, which would go down a treat with her. Part of what holds me back doing that, is again, laziness - I go to bed too late to get up early enough and then there is always something more important to do.

My goal this week, is to get to bed earlier and be up by 7 in order to take Daisy for a walk before I get caught up in everything else that goes on. I made a good start this morning by getting out by 8 and got in 5,000 of my 10,000 daily steps target.

    Very good habit to work on. It is so difficult to change one's routine. Knowing what is good for us and doing it are often 2 different things.

    You can do this! And think what a happy dog Daisy will be! emoticon I so can relate to your comment on laziness. I think we all have different temperaments and ways of being in the world. I would define mine as 'happy slug'! When you mentioned settling down in a comfy chair with your Kindle or a good book, my heart soared at the thought of it! emoticon
    Well my spark friend, you have motivated me again! This lazy slug is going to get off the computer in a few minutes and take a really long walk outside. Hope you are walking even as I am writing this.... C'mon, Daisy is calling!!! emoticon

    I get up at 5:30am most mornings to get a good parking place at school. I paid $50 for my permit and if I don't come early, I don't get a spot. It is so frustrating. I am sure you can make a habit of getting up early. The peace in the mornings is well worth it.

    What about taking the walk with husband AND Daisy? It's good bounding time (my partner and I do that).

    YOU are starting the day off great and your half way there. I like to walk outside but I also have Leslie's walking DVDs and they are great if your weather is bad or if your not feeling that great and you can break up the walk with 15 or 20 minutes, rest and then pick up again another 20 mins.     Nice job! You are halfway to your daily step goal and still have the whole day ahead of you! I'm planning to do a 5 mile Leslie Sansone DVD this morning. But I like the idea of getting outside too, especially now that spring is here.
