A new habit?

Saturday, March 02, 2013

The challenge for the 5% challenge this week is to blog about what new habits I want to develop. I have been thinking about it, and I find that eating healthy is already a habit... as is exercising regularly. I had to think about HOW I exercise. I guess the main habit I would like to develop would be running outside on a regular basis. I'm not going to do it right now, as the weather is still cold and snowy, and the sidewalks are icy, and I don't want to fall and break something. But once the Winter weather has passed I want to get out there and run. Last Fall I was too self conscious to enjoy running outside, especially by myself, but I need to get used to it, and that takes just getting out there and doing it. I run 4-5 miles on a regular basis on the treadmill, so why not move it outside when the weather improves?

I am off to walk the dog, then to the Farmer's Market, before heading to my parents' house to make lunch for them. I hope to get the dog out for a good long walk this afternoon. Have a good day everyone!

Once you get used to running outside, you'll see why we call it the dreadmill. Outside is somuch more fun.

You will find running outside to be great. You will really love it. Just make certain you have really good shoes.

Great plan! Is there a women's running group in your town? We have a women's running clinic that started today, and I think it's going to be great fun.

Running outside is so different than the treadmill.....I do not enjoy the treadmill as I get bored with it. Being out in nature is the best way to run if you live somewhere that you can be out and not worry about falling. Spring will be here soon!

I'm waiting for nicer weather so I can get outside with my grandson. I'm tired of being stuck inside.

Oh, I so wish I could run. I used to LOVE running and it was the best way to lose so much weight. But the spine and joints just won't do it anymore. My doc says I could get down to 116 (yeah! as if!) and I would still be unable to run.

So there it is! You take advantage of your running and you can even throw in a mile for me since I can't run. I will let you dedicate one to me every week!

Am proud of your decision. My challenge would be to stop eating ice cream regularly! HAHA (I have only had 2 bowls this week and none last week, so I am getting there!)

Well done! I also need to start jogging outside, once the weather clears. I'm sure your dog will enjoy it too!

I read a really good book on Habit.
The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

It has really helped me develop new, better habits and replace some old ones.
