Hunger/Fullness Levels

Today is going to be a VERY stressful day. I know that already. Coach Becky must have known too. She talked to me this morning during my SparkCoach session about paying attention to my hunger level before I eat and eating only when I'm at a 3 or 4. Then stopping when I'm at a 7. I'll really need to keep this in mind ... all day. And I'll need to turn the lights out in the kitchen like I've been doing the past couple of nights right after dinner. I need to be on my toes today!

Here's a hunger/fullness chart for reference:

Hunger Level ....... Sensations and Symptoms
1 Starving, weak, dizzy
2 Very hungry, cranky, low energy, a lot of stomach growling
3 Pretty hungry, stomach is growling a little
4 Starting to feel a little hungry
5 Satisfied, neither hungry nor full
6 A little full, pleasantly full
7 A little uncomfortable
8 Feeling stuffed
9 Very uncomfortable, stomach hurts
10 So full you feel sick

    I've always had trouble with this. For me, it's better to eat at intervals, because I seldom feel the hunger, and only take a certain amount, then not go back for more.

I usually put the food and amount in the tracker before eating...and then not add anything to it. That's the only thing that works for me. I think my stomach is just broken after so many years of treating it unwisely! emoticon

    I always aim to stop at a six but wind up a seven most of the time. I need to work on chewing. LOL This was a great share, Cathy.

    This is really helpful, it makes you actually listen to your body and what it is telling you and not eating just for the sake of it, I hope it works well my friend.

    Yes, you can do this! Seems as if you've had more than your share of stress lately, yet you're both rising above it yourself, and extending the helping hand down to everyone else, too! A true butterfly, Cathy, a true butterfly...with muscles! :)

I know this hunger gauge in my head, but the information has quite made it onto my "I will no matter what" list yet. I seem to be able to manage fine on days off, but have trouble working it within the constraints of a work day. Still, I know that I can't allow those challenges to become excuses, either, so I THANK you for this blog!

    That is a great chart. I love it. It really makes one stop and take stock of "why am I eating?" Not because it's noon. or six. but because the tummy says to eat.

So often we eat because we see a piece of food readily available.
