Some time ago I blogged a couple of times about habits:
So the requirement of my current challenge to blog about habits each day is right up my alley as I think understanding how habits form and can be changed is critical to weight loss and establishing a healthy lifestyle. I was going to concentrate on the mental aspect of habit forming but this morning as I was brushing my teeth I realised that I had lost the habit of flossing at the same time. Teeth and gums are very important to general health. Poor oral hygiene can affect both the intake of nutrients (if chewing is compromised) and heart and lung health (as damaging bacteria can enter the body through infected gums).
The last time my teeth were checked only a few weeks ago the dentist was very pleased with them; but that seems to have led me to relax my effort. Now I don't want to be like the character in Pam Ayers' poem who laments,
Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth,
And spotted the dangers beneath
All the toffees I chewed,
And the sweet sticky food.
Oh, I wish I’d looked after me teeth.
Therefore, from today I will reinstitute the habit of flossing my teeth at least once a day!
