It's My Body & My Journey and "I call it Exercise"!!! So There! LOL!

Twice in the past three day's I've read things online that have left me feeling frustrated with expert advice and the feeling that I've been sabotaged by those who say they are known professionals and are out to help me. The first one, I played right into their hands and went out and bought an Almond Joy because it looked so good [the texture] the article was on "Motivation" but they put a candy bar with a close up shot at the top of the article? emoticon Hello, food porn does not help motivate me, but sabatoged my day! emoticon
Then last night I was feeling really good about my increased level of activity and read this: That unless our exercise brings the heart rate up higher than a resting heart rate [by, I think it was like 60 to 80%] that it's not counted as exercise? emoticon I'm sorry, but if I'm making myself MOVE [get up from my chair] and move more than normal ..rather I break into a sweat or not, it's exercise at this weight!!! emoticon Frankly, I give myself 10 minutes a day credit for activity if I'm cleaning and cooking and doing chores around here.. BECAUSE I AM NOT ordering my meals out [like we use to do to avoid cooking and clean up]. emoticon (NO, I don't say 30 minutes or an hour but only 10 minutes no matter how long I take, I figure I maynot be Speedy Gonzales but it's movement & I'm building up more energy & strength every day I do more and more around my own house!)
Since I started tracking fitness minutes, I've also added dancing and exercise, but I don't do it every day, I try for 3 day's a week ..sometimes I get more or less in.
The truth is, I started out tracking my home cooked meals [prep time and washing dishes] so we would eat out less. I don't like skinny people telling me that I'm not working out, tell my body that when it hurts. emoticon

    I completely agree with the food ads on weight loss articles and about hearing that if your not breaking a sweat your not losing.

On a good note i was told that if your body is heating up from (what ever exercise ) that you are doing, then your metabolism kicks in real high and you do burn more calories.
Its a known fact that you burn calories just moving. So these articles need to be more pacific. So that people who are over weight will not get discouraged.

We have read many times before if it hurts to stop. So just do what you can but do push just a little. Work up endurance. It doesn't matter if you are 10 pounds or 200 pounds overweight. You will ache when exercising when your not use to it.

Its the endurance that will work. Don't push to hurt your body. No matter what those articles say, you know your body.

You are doing great!

    Maybe you should get a Fitbit. When I got mine and linked it to Spark, my exercise minutes went WAAAY UP!!! I really didn't start exercising, it is just that the Fitbit counts most movement as exercise, categorizing it as light, fairly active and very active. I figure that the Spark people must agree that the fairly active and very active actually are exercise, since they transfer the minutes from Fitbit to Spark.

Again, if Spark thinks fairly active Fitbit movement as exercise, who am I to argue??

    I don't exercise to that level often if at all. I call brisk walking, exercise classes, heavy housework, all exercise. It's exercise if it's movement. In my case, I count it exercise if it isn't just doing light housework or shopping. emoticon

    In my book any movement is exercise! Whatever it takes to motivate me to just get up and move more is counted. I agree with the others, only you know your body and how hard you are working. Keep up the great work and keep on moving! Have a great weekend! Hugs coming your way!!

    If it helps you make progress on your journey it's exercise in my book! I track my cooking and cleaning of constant movement,. I am really constantly moving I look like I'm "dancing" while I wash the dishes. My kids ask what are you doing, you look like you have to go to the bathroom. I tell them (they're adults) get over it I'm getting a little extra exercise in. Don't be discouraged people here understand exactly where you are at in your journey! Some experts have never been here!

    I'm with you - I sometimes count my house chores as activity. Quite frankly, there are a lot of days I work up a sweat cleaning. Find what works for you, and stick to it. (And to heck with the experts).

    I am with you. I take credit for my cleaning and anything that gets me off the couch. I get lots of "expert" advice as well. The thing I get counseled on the most is my water intake. I hate it when people tell me that I am drinking too much water. I have a water retention problem and what helps that go away??? Drinking water! lol

It is your journey. You need to do what you feel is right for YOU! It isn't for me (or anyone else) to tell you what is right for you. What do we know? If we were truly experts, we wouldn't be here trying to lose the weight! lol

    I completely agree! I consider walking in place exercise because if I made a conscious decision to get up off the couch when I'd normally be sitting and do 10 minutes walking in place in front of the tv, I'm counting it for Fitness Minutes. I know I may not be sweating or my heart racing and I don't care if it isn't burning many calories because it's burning more than me sitting on the couch. Keep on counting your exercise my friend, you rock! emoticon emoticon

    I take all this advice with a grain of salt. Some is good...some not so good. You know your body better than anyone. You know whether you're exercising or slacking. Only you can decide what is right for you. emoticon emoticon

    Movement of all types help, give yourself the credit. Sitting around doing nothing is to easy. My wife and I are both very obese so I understand where you are coming from. I love this site because info comes from so many sources and so many different people struggling with this every day, Keep at it. Thanks.
