So, I had announced a couple of weeks ago that something new was coming for me. Well, here it is! Starting today, March 1, my momma's 69th birthday, my mom and I have started a new eating plan. It's not really a diet, exactly, because I don't feel like it's something that I will regret doing.
Here I am at the end of day one, and I am satisfied, happy, and not even hungry. I love it!! We are doing a version of the jump start plan presented by Atkins.
Today, day one, there was breakfast - 2 eggs, a little bit of onion, and 1 oz of cheddar cheese. My mom had bought me for my birthday last summer this cool little plastic gadget that you put your egg and whatever ingredients you want into it, close it up, and pop it in the microwave for a quick omelet. The omelet I made this morning had just the egg and onion and some ground up sea salt and peppercorn pepper. It was absolutely delicious!! My mom said she shredded her cheese and put in with the egg. I just had mine in a little chuck. Either way, it came out tasting so yummy!
The snack this morning was an Atkins brand protein shake - creamy chocolate. Yummmm!!
Lunch was surprising delicious, and my mother and I both decided we are going to start doing this for Thanksgiving dinner! Turkey has never really been a fan favorite at our house during the holidays. That's horrible... I know. But honestly, we just don't eat a lot of turkey! We usually end up with too many left overs that get frozen, never eaten, and eventually thrown out. Lunch today was a 3 oz of turkey with 1/2 cup of turkey gravy. Mom just bought deli sliced turkey lunch meat and the traditional turkey gravy. Heat it up for a few seconds in the microwave and it is so yummy! The turkey was juicy and delicious, and the gravy just added that extra flavor that made it feel like Thanksgiving!
The afternoon snack today was an Atkins brand protein bar. I haven't had mine yet, but it's sitting next to me and calling my name. lol I have had them before, and they are really pretty tasty!
Dinner was by far my favorite meal today. Baked fish, a cup of broccoli, a cup of salad greens, and though the plan actually called for simple olive oil as the dressing, mom said I could use my home made Italian dressing. I use olive oil, a little bit of vinegar, and some Italian spices, so it didn't add any extra calories to use that instead of plain olive oil. I am a lover of natural foods, so salad with a little dressing and the broccoli were right up my alley. My favorite part of the meal, though, was the fist. A nice piece of Tilapia with a little olive oil to prevent sticking and some salt-free garlic and herb seasoning. That was all it was. But oh my heaves, it was the most delicious piece of fish I've had in ages! It was so easy to make and was absolutely amazing. I loved every bite, and finished the meal feeling so happy and satisfied.
I have to admit, I was not really looking forward to all this. I love the idea of doing this with my mom, though. Just knowing she is doing it with me helps because I know I can talk to her about it and it's something we can do together. But I was still leery. I am a food lover! I love to eat!! And believe me - it shows! At the end of the day today, though, I am excited about this and looking forward to the rest of the month! I'm going to do my best to blog something new every day about the foods we're eating and the exercise I have to make myself do, and the results that my mother and I both have.
Initially, we were going to share our starting weights, but we decided that part isn't what's important. It's more about how much we lose. So, we did weigh in this morning, and next Friday, we'll weigh in again and I'll post an update on our progress!
