Monday I had a physical exam. The doctor described the results as a "solid A" before seeing the lab test results. Those test results were delivered today. I don't understand all of them, but I kinda sorta understand the lipid panel. In conjunction with the results from two years ago, it tells a success story that is largely driven by weight control and exercise.
Total Cholesterol: 181 (under 200 is good)
HDL: 61 (over 60 is good)
LDL: 106 (under 100 is optimal)
Cholesterol/HDL ratio: 3.0
Total Cholesterol: 155
Cholesterol/HDL ratio: 2.0
The last test, in February 2011, was five months before I found SparkPeople and got serious about controlling my weight. The current test is after over a year of maintenance, and at a point where I'm running 15 to 20 miles per week.
The numbers weren't terrible before I got serious about health; but they're better now. Given a family tree with lots of stroke and atherosclerosis, this is where I want the cholesterol numbers to be.
