Who do you think you are? Whose view of yourself do you accept?

Friday, March 01, 2013

I read something today that struck home - it asked the questions in the title of my blog and discussed possible answers. The writer suggested that often we accept what we have heard others say about us both by word and by actions to define ourselves and that we often accept and assume failure as who and what we are rather than exploring our true potential or BEST selves. It suggested giving ourselves a VERY special gift - the gift of seeing ourselves as God sees us and points out that if we even believed a tiny FRACTION of what God sees in us to be true, we would radically change our lives.

There is research that shows that we tend to believe whatever the most important person in our lives thinks about us - so when our parents abandon, abuse, or neglect us, we BELIEVE we are worthless. When our husbands and significant people in our life discount us and put us down, we BELIEVE we are stupid, ugly, and worthless.

What do you think would happen if instead of believing those things, we started to believe what God believes of us? How might our lives be different if we truly believed that we were more precious than gold or silver, more beautiful than flowers or the most beautiful sunset, or more desirable than even the sexiest person we have ever imagined? If you truly believed you had such immense value, would you really beat yourself up over every mistake, every treat, every calorie over the LIMIT that you ate? Would you really call yourself by some of the nicknames that I see used (right here on SP) that put the user down, belittle them, or simply paint and ugly and unattractive picture of who they might be? These names are not called by others, but by the users themselves. If you truly believed that we were PRECIOUS, think of the impact that would have on our journey to a healthy weight and to a healthier life - it could change our world. We might find PEACE, serenity, and content with ourselves and from there, we might even find that the weight leaves because we no longer need it to protect us from the JOY and TREASURES that are available but that we think we don't deserve.

Just some things to think about - I don't know how this will affect ME but it is much like I keep saying and affirming for myself and the rest of you wonderful people who are so special and precious to me. Take a few moments and think on these things.

Have a great weekend.

Most of us act like toward others but fall down on the job when it comes to ourselves. This struck me really powerfully. I have little doubt that MOST of us MOST of the time treat others better than we treat ourselves and that this accounts for a lot of our weight issues.

Thank you for such a wonderful reminder that we are all God's creation and should reflect His love and see ourselves as He sees us. You and I (and all of us) are precious in His sight and should believe in ourselves as only He does. Again, thank you for the reminder. Take care and have a wonderful weekend! Hugz, Sharon

emoticon for the good blog...definitely something to think about and remember...I was the victim of both verbal and physical abuse in my first marriage...but in my second marriage I found a keeper...he makes me feel wonderful no matter my size...anywhere from a 5 to an 18...God says we are of value to Him...He sent His only Son to die for us... emoticon
