My Week's Review

Friday, March 01, 2013

I had a great week at work! So great, in fact, that I agreed to work an extra shift after my three regularly scheduled shifts. So I've been pretty tired and unable to keep up with Spark as much as usual. Sorry about my absence!

I cannot even tell you how much I love my job! I feel like I am right where I am supposed to be in my life right now. I'm so very thankful for the peace and happiness that I am experiencing. Here is a meditation that I wrote on the board on my unit and shared/discussed with my patients this week...

My eating habits have become well known and much discussed at my new job! From what I can gather, my co-workers are unaccustomed to anyone eating anything that does not come from a bag or a fast food restaurant! I get a lot of comments and many discussions have transpired over my fruit, fish, and chopped vegetables! It was uncomfortable at first, only because I sensed how uncomfortable my healthy habits were making everyone else feel. But I've been generous to share my food, and very careful about not appearing elitist about my habits vs their habits. And now everyone seems to be following suit and have started bringing in some healthier food! How exciting! Also, last night I had made an extra salad for a nurse I was working with (she had asked me to the night before) and she loved it! This makes me so happy:-) I've even noticed that one of the other nurses who made some very negative passive-aggressive comments about my eating habits has even shown a slight interest in eating more healthy.

All in all, I'm in a very good place right now! One thing I have to monitor is my snack intake at work. Unfortunately, they've been delivering way too many delicious snacks to our kitchen and it's just so easy and free to walk in there and grab whatever I want. I'm up a few lbs on the scale right now because of that. This weekend I'm going to go hiking with my dogs and my daughters, and I'm also going to figure out a game plan for next week.

Thanks for all of your encouragement and support!

If the items are home made, it won't hurt to take a nibble now and again, when at work. It shows you are able to be like other humans! lol
The good thing is your self control, and how much you eat of it. The other is that being homemade, hopefully from scratch and not from a package. As soon as I would hear package, I run. Scary things are pre fab and fast take out. Not in my vocabulary. Keep in mind your flux in weight, could be water. If it were from that one bite, I would wonder why weight gain? U can work that off with your hike. I don't know if u know who Dr. Andrew Weil is, but he is like a guru to me, as far as
bad ingredients and what to look for.

So glad to hear you are finding happiness, it is much deserved. Your new friends will also appreciate what they learn from your experiences. Even the ones that may seem to resent it, will secretly admire and someday even aspire to do as well as you have done. Keep it up and keep the faith.

Your comment about the snacks at work made me laugh because of something that happened at my work today. Everyone kept saying, "Hey, don't forget, there are home made cookies in the break room (that has the computer printers in it--whose idea was THAT?)" Well, enough people said it to me, that when I was walking by to get my printouts, I thought I'd give the cookies a look-see. Mmm they looked good. Soft, Carrot-cake type cookies with cream cheese frosting. Yummmm. So I feel a little guilty and pick one up. Contemplation. Internal turmoil. I waaaant iiiiit... So I take a little bite, and the darned thing flips out of my hand and lands frosting-side down on the carpet. I just started laughing. It was like the good angel on my shoulder knocked it out of my hand!
And of course, the 5-second rule does NOT apply when the gooey frosting side landed on the carpet. Ick.

I can sympathize with the eating healthy issue. I think it is awesome that these very habits are having a positive effect on your workplace. I have experienced that same thing! I love that others come to me for advice (though I feel ill-qualified but I have to remember that what I accomplished did not just happen, I made it happen!).
BTW, having a job you love is AWESOME!

Delighted for you, sounds like you are in a great place and it is well deserved - you put in all the good work. A lot of the passive aggressive remarks have to do with others wishing they could do the same and nothing to do with disliking you or your plan! It is great that you are an inspiration to many, that must feel good to be making a difference in their lives.

I like your quote as well. It is very true.

I guess you've heard the saying "You May be the only Bible some people read…You may be the only Jesus some people see…"?

I guess for you, it should be, "You may be the only 'changed life' some people have ever seen".

So glad you are enjoying you new job. That makes all the difference in the world.

What a neat influence you are having on your fellow workers! It does make others a bit uneasy to see someone valuing themself. Good for you! Your approach to be non threatening was a good choice.

I think the scale will tend to fluctuate when new schedules are introduced. Be kind to yourself and enjoy your work! They are fortunate to have you!

That quote is awesome. I wrote it down to share with my church group. Thanks for sharing.
