Sleeping late

Friday, March 01, 2013

Since I'm retired now I can go to bed late and get up late if I want or I can go to bed early and get up early. It is my choice now. In my working days, I always had to get up extra early just to get things around the house done before heading to work. But never seemed to get into bed before 10:30 during that time of my life. I was so used to getting by on 7 or less hours of sleep per night which I know was not good for me. It took me some time to adjust to sleeping properly when I retired. Hubby was the same way. I was retired a couple of years before him and when he retired, he was getting up early and going to bed at the same time. Finally I told him...hey you are retired and can sleep in the mornings if you want. So now if we go to bed too late or I read until 11 pm then I make sure I sleep late in the morning. And this winter I've been getting between 8-9hours sleep now. Once the weather turns hot, I will have to get up early to beat the heat of the day. So usually I don't sleep as long in the summer months. Also think it has to do with less light in the winter and more in the summer. I just do not sleep with any lights even appliance lights so I have learned to sleep with a sleep mask now. But as the little owl says you will regret it if you stay up late and have to get up early.

That little owl is SO right. I often forget it and am tempted to stay up later than I should, just goofing off. I need to remember this lil owl dude and go to bed!

So very true, Barbara. In fact, I'm going to bed right now!!! Maybe I'll even sleep until 5 this afternoon.

Loved this post. Sleep is the one goal that I haven't been able to get a handle on. I know I need more than the 6-61/2 hours I get but that getting in bed early is so hard.
Thanks for sharing emoticon

Getting at least 7 hours of sleep is something I'm going to work on in March.

I'm mostly retired and I still don't sleep enough most night. Sometimes when I get up wide awake at night I can go back to sleep about the time I want to get up. I can't go sleep in total darkness or total silence. Sometimes I can't sleep because I am in pain.

I can't wait until I retire so I can have that luxury...

I definitely don't get enough sleep and I am working on that. The owl knows what he is talking about!

Amen sister! I truly hate when I don't get enough sleep. Unfortunately when I'm traveling for work, the days are often long and it ends up being a choice between sleep and exercise...and I really want both, yes I do, yes I do!!
