Food and skin health...

Friday, March 01, 2013

My skin has NOT been happy lately! I've had a bad flare up of adult acne this past week. Inflamed, red, bumpy skin certainly doesn't help my self-confidence. Even with cover-up makeup my skin is looking rather unsightly...

I'm wondering if it's linked to several dietary changes. The past two weeks I've been eating a lot of canned anchovies. I've also swapped my regular fish oil pills with krill oil. I've stopped taking the krill oil and used up the last of my anchovies. I hate to use precription drugs, but have broken down and started taking oral and topical antibiotics that I received from my dermatologist last time I had an acne flare up. Oh, to have flawless skin! Actually, I'd be more than happy to have slightly less than flawless. I don't mind a blemish now and then but this adult acne/rosacea that I have been battling for the last five years has been a real character building experience.

In other news I stopped by my orthodontist earlier in the week for my comlimentary custom made bleaching trays. I was surprised by how "yellow" my teeth were on the color chart. I'm just glad that I don't smoke or drink coffee or soda or else my teeth would really look stained! I've been using the bleaching gel for one hour each day for the past four days, but I hardly see a difference. Supposedly it can take as long as two weeks to see results.

My goals for this weekend are to restart my early morning workouts. I've gotten out of the habit this past week. Need to regroup and refocus! I miss the early morning endorphin boost. My diet, thankfully, has been rather on point lately. I bought a ton of frozen green veggies that I've been consuming on a daily basis, so getting at least 5 servings of veggies each day. This helps because I naturally have a bigger appetite than the next person -- the veggies with just vinegar dressing are the best way to fill me up on the least amount of calories. I've tried sugarless gum with mixed results. Sometimes it sates me other times the gum seems to make me hungry for food.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Friday :)

Sorry to hear about your skin flaring up. I hope taking your medication helps you out a lot, and making small changes to your diet. It's funny how our skin can be affected so drastically by what we eat. It's funny, as in annoying.

Also, I hope you get back in your morning routine of working out! I'm going to give that a try myself on Monday. Key word is TRY.
