On the Road to Recovery

Friday, March 01, 2013

I don't want to jinx myself by writing this, but for the past two days the pain in my hip has been very minimal. Actually, it's more like an odd pressure, but not really uncomfortable. Last night I actually forgot to take time to ice my hip, even though I'd had a good workout on the elliptical. I'm really glad that taking the doctor's advice and following my own instincts is paying off. I've been trying to eat food that fights inflammation and avoid those that do. I'm also taking powdered ginger capsules as ginger is said to help with inflammation, and I figure even if it doesn't help it's not likely to hurt. I also plan to add turmeric capsules to my daily supplement mix, another natural inflammation fighter. I'm really pleased that I seem to be getting on top of this situation with natural, holistic type remedies instead of injections. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with modern medicine, I just felt it was important to try the simplest things first. I'm going to keep with this plan for at least two more weeks. Then, if I'm still pain free, I'll slowly start running--just a little bit--working up as I go along. My goal is to be ready for an April 13th 5K I've already signed up for. This 5K is special to me because it was the very first 5K I ever took part in, last year. Even if I don't run my best time, I do hope to run the whole route, not walk like I did last year.

Sounds as though you have a good plan. If you need additional help you might try acupuncture. Two treatments gave me 2 YEARS worth of hip relief.
