Bible scripture that REALLY hit home, today.

Matthew 15:10-20

this is where the Pharisees were trying to catch Jesus in a trap, either by His words or actions. they asked Him aobut how He and His disipiles didn't wash their hands before they ate.(it was was a tradition/law) if they didn't wash their hands, the food they ate was considered "unclean".

Jesus told them that what a person puts in his mouth, doesn't make him unclean, but what comes out of the mouth, is what makes Him unclean. because what comes out of his mouth, came out of his heart.

in the NIV Study bible i have, it says this about the passage, "We work hard to keep our outward appearance attractive, but what is in our hearts is even more important. The way we are deep down (where others can't see) matters much to God. What are you like inside? When we become Christians, God makes us different on the inside. He will continue the process of change inside, if we only ask. God wants us to seek healthy thoughts and motives, not just healthy food and exercise."

the reason this hit me so hard, is one of my biggest problems is, BALANCE. i need to make sure that i am eating healthy and exercising, but also spending time doing Bible study and being a good example of what Christ wants me to be, to show others, and helping others.

i gotta remember balance.

I am struggling with finding that balance, too! When I walk, I listen to Christian music, and I spend my walk praying, and praising Him and I feel so much closer to God. But then I get back to "reality" and get so busy that I lose sight of my true purpose. I need to remember that God is with me all the time, and that I need to live my life so others can see that.

We are ALL works in progress, and it's a journey where we'll never really "arrive". Rather than sitting on the side of the road and saying "Then what's the point?", we've chosen to take the journey because we know it changes us in profound ways. That goes for weight as well as our walk with Christ!
