Healthy, Harmful, or Healing???????

Friday, March 01, 2013

Many know that I lost 21 pounds from my surgery and week stay in the hospital in November. For the next 2 months, I had soft foods and or soup. Since beginning back on regular food in January, my weight has slowly but steadily gone up. Mainly 2/10 to 1 pound per week. I am still below my pre-surgery weight. I am not greatly upset because I did expect this to happen. I just don't want it to get any higher. I guess my body is entering another part of the healing process because lately I seem to be hungry more often. I am eating healthy (most of the time anyway), just eating waaaaaaaay too much. For the past 3 weeks, my eating times have been very sporadic. Also, I've eaten out a lot (not fast food) because I've been on the go so much. Eating prepared foods which have a lot of salt in them has caused a lot of swelling. For the next 2 weeks, i will be mainly at home so I will see how my weight does during this time.

Even thought I am gaining, I think that it is a healthy gain because it is slow. No I don't want the weight back but losing it like I did isn't healthy either. For the next 2 weeks, I will be more vigilant and in control of when and where I eat. I will see if that makes a difference.

You probably already know this, but in the hospital loss of weight also goes hand in hand with a lower metabolic rate. Your body is now repairing itself and it is trying to determine what metabolic rate is need to stabilize your weight. Eat what you should for your weight and let your body learn what it needs
