I have reached a major goal

Friday, March 01, 2013

This is the lowest weight I have seen on my scale since 22 years ago, March of 1991.

A recap of my weight history:
1969: 117
1979: 143 (after two pregnancies)
1980: 139
1981: 131

August 1982: 160 (TRAUMA: INABILITY TO FIND WORK)
June 1983: 196

November 1984: 168 (found work)
Sept. 1985 190 (TRAUMA: Serious illness of husband)

Sept. 1986: 170
May 1988: 155

Sept. 1988: 182 (TRAUMA: Caretaking of mean elderly woman)
Jan. 1989: 204
June 1989: 220
June 1990: 230

September 1990: 205

March 1991: 187

April, 1992: 228 (Caretaking of elderly)

1993: 250 (Husband's serious stroke)

September 1998: 220

August 2001: 202

October, 2009: 216 (Started taking insulin)
steady weight gain until

July 2011 at 238
started sparking seriously.
Since then there has been a smooth decline--nothing hasty.

Now I have a major incentive to stay beneath that 200 mark. Thank you Spark People and especially the BLC which keeps me active and honest and motivated.

Major major goal reached! and am even more amazed at your record of your weight over so many years and events...Allows you to identify the triggers. Wish I had - though in thinking about it, I have reacted differently at different times to things. like heartbreak (horrible things happening to people I love or death or end of romance). I have got ridiculously thin sometimes (under 100lbs once) and put on 10kgs others. And happiness - sometimes made me delight in food, other times not think about it.

Welcome to one-derland! I read your history and I too, can pinpoint weight gain to specific stresses (and could not find full time work in the Regan years!). It took almost a year but I got to wonderland in November, 2012. I'm now in the 180's (189 but who is counting) as of this week. I go slow and steady and try not to be discouraged when I read about the really rapid weight losses.
I've burned the ships by giving away my clothes as I get smaller . . . I know it is going to stick this time. I feel great and hope the same for you!

emoticon , you are doing so well. I have similar reactions to stress and know the struggle involved to counteract the effects on activity and appetite. On the 5% Challenge this week's Living The Good Life task is to blog about habits and to start establishing a new one. I'm going to work on something to do with the mind as I'm convinced that's where my problem with food lies. Soleased to hear you have passed that significant milestone. Kia kaha, Natalie!
