New tires and sewing machine bummer

Thursday, February 28, 2013

Finally took the plunge and decided on which tires to get. Had them mounted tonight so that is done. Hubby will be all set in case we get another snowfall. Went for some nice Michllen tires. Spendier, but will be worth it for the better ride we felt.

So that's where the evening was spent. Before that went to get my sewing machine where it was being repaired. Bummer, the repair part and labor for the presser foot motor was more than the machine is worth now- it is that old. Spent over $2500 for the machine over 12 years ago and it is worth around $250 or so now before they found what was wrong with it. I have another smaller basic sewing machine they checked out for me too and that one is fine. Since my fancy one isn't worth anything on trade broken, and it cost $250 to repair, why bother? So I told them to keep it and use it for parts or dispose of it. Am not sewing much now, not like I used to, so the smaller one should work just fine for doing small repairs and stuff.

Fifty-three years ago my sewing machine was a wedding shower present from my parents. It is a Singer and is made of metal rather than plastic. Every time I've talked to a salesperson about buying a new one they tell me I can't buy one as good as I have. The woman who does alterations for my husband has a newer fancy once and one like mine. Guess which one she sews on!

Sewing machines are spendy items it seems!! I do sew quite a bit, although it's in spurts - I have all the materials to make a new comforter for the bed with pillows, but I just haven't been in the mood to start it. I used to make everything I wore as I needed clothes that looked expensive but ones I could afford. Sewing was the best option!!

I bet you will like your tires. I had some all weather ones that I just loved as they dealt with rain so well. Never any sliding. Happy motoring!!

Sorry about the sewing machine - I get so frustrated when mine isn't working right. I finally bought a new one - the most basic thing I could find - and it does the job for repairs and alterations, like you said. emoticon
